Webinar: How to Embark on Art-Integrated, Community-Engaged Research
12-1:00pm | Online
Creating Knowledge in Common is a special collection in the online journal Ground Works, featuring university-community partnerships that center the arts and design. It explores these partnerships across a range of contexts and structures, unpacking the what, why, and how of research that is both arts-integrated and community-engaged. The collection is intended to start conversations and connect its readers, so we have some associated programming meant to bring people together around it.
|
|
|
A series of Ask-Them-Anything webinars will give readers the opportunity for conversation with the authors, and a virtual Round Table will bring together university and community partners for discussion and storytelling about the efforts and energies that drive this work, visions for arts-integrated research, and the challenges as well as meaningful outcomes that emerge along these journeys.
Register here to attend.

The Department of Visual Art will continue to offer Open Figure Drawing once a month while classes are in session. Workshops are FREE and open to anyone who wants to draw the figure.
Drawing the human figure in its various shapes and positions is an important activity for all visual artists. Figure drawing, the process of drawing the human body from observation of a live model, is arguably the most difficult subject an artist commonly encounters.

Call for Poster Designers: Art History Lecture Series
Intersections of Identity: Expression, Exchange, and Hybridity
Application deadline: January 31, 2025
KU Graduate student of the History of Art’s DEAI committee, with the support of the Department of Art History’s Faculty, is seeking poster designers for the Spring 2025 lecture series, Intersections of Identity: Expression, Exchange, and Hybridity. Speakers in the lectures will address the following questions: what constitutes identity, and how do people navigate, form, and reform their sense of self? How can studying art and its history help us consider the diverse identities expressed by visual culture and its creators? This series seeks to amplify the voices of those whose work explores individual and collective identities as those intersect with notions of the body, dis/ability, gender, heritage, race, and more. Earlier lectures in the Intersections of Identity series can be viewed on the YouTube channel of KU Art History. A reward of $100 will be made to the designer following the submission of the final poster formats if selected.
Currently enrolled KU and Haskell undergraduate students regardless of year, major, or experience are welcome and encouraged to apply! Please fill out this short application form and submit a portfolio for review to be considered.
