| Dear Friends and Advocates,
DCADV is in the final stages of preparing for the October 10th Purple Ribbon Event and the 30th year celebration! Our guest speaker will be Carol Post, DCADV’s Founding Executive Director and we will be honoring several awardees for their commitment to ending and preventing domestic violence. We hope you will join us! Please see below for more information on the event and basket auction.
We are also celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Women of Color Task Force! This task force is comprised of dedicated women who work tirelessly to raise awareness of domestic violence. We are so grateful to the WOCTF for their commitment! The task force is planning a special event on Friday October 18th. Please see below for more information.
This October is also the 30th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) which was spearheaded by then Senator Joe Biden. VAWA has provided essential funding to address domestic violence: funding for shelters, advocates, law enforcement special units, housing, and legal services. VAWA has created essential protections for victims of domestic violence, including protections for tribal communities and LGBTQ victims. This federal legislation has had immeasurable impact on local communities and states, and we are so grateful to President Biden and all the many advocates and legislators who have supported and expanded VAWA protections.
As we enter the fall months, I want to share my gratitude for our member programs for all their work in providing essential services to domestic violence victims. These agencies, which include the Community Legal Aid Society, Inc (CLASI), the Delaware Center for Justice, People’s Place, CHILD, Inc., and the YWCA Delaware, provide comprehensive and responsive services to victims of domestic violence. DCADV is so grateful for the commitment of our member programs!
Peace,
Sue Ryan

| Online Training Center
We are excited to announce some fresh offerings in our Online Training Center! Foundations of Domestic Violence and Foundations of Trauma-Informed Care have been updated to include captions and additional resources.
DCADV is thrilled to announce the launch of our Foundations of Prevention online module! This online training will provide participants with an overview of prevention concepts and theory, as well some practical interventions that everyone can implement. The training is designed for any person to access and learn from. Our hope is that current and new partners can learn how they fit into the movement to prevent and end intimate partner violence. It consists of five lessons and serves as an introduction to gender-based violence prevention strategies.
Each of the Foundations trainings take about 90 minutes to complete. They’re all self-paced, which means you can complete them at your convenience. Stay tuned for a few more additions to the Foundations series in 2025!

Complex Connections: Domestic Violence, Trauma, and Mental Health
Intimate partner and sexual violence are major social issues that impact our safety and our health. Common mental health issues (depression, PTSD, suicidality, anxiety, addictions) are often exacerbated by domestic/intimate partner violence. Intimate partner violence may also reduce the effectiveness of community health services by disconnecting victims/survivors from personal and professional support systems. Mental/behavioral health service providers have a unique connection with service recipients, and can play an important role in identifying, addressing, and preventing domestic and intimate partner violence. Join us at the Milford Library on November 14 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to explore how you can help!
This introductory training is geared toward mental/behavioral health providers, substance abuse treatment providers, social workers, and therapists.

Learning Management System
DCADV has adopted a web-based contact and data management system called Coalition Manager (CM). Coalition Manager houses all of our e-learning courses and we use it for all training registrations, so the name may sound familiar to you! In the next few weeks, we’ll be opening access to CM to our member programs and DV Specialists. Keep an eye out for an email with more information!

June 30th was the last day of the 2024 Legislative Session, and DCADV is so appreciative of all the advocacy from our supporters and community! DCADV partnered with member programs and community advocates to share information on legislation and to support efforts to protect the safety and well-being of domestic violence survivors. We wanted to shed light on some important housing bills that passed the General Assembly, and share how this could impact families across the state.

What if we could make sure everyone knows about domestic violence services in Delaware?
What if we could provide training to folks across the state?
What if we could be a voice for those who need support?
What if we could prevent and end domestic violence?
We can… with your support.
Your membership will provide essential funds that the Coalition uses throughout the year to support outreach, training, advocacy, and general operations. It ensures that the work we do reaches more victims and survivors, more advocates, more direct service providers, and more individual men and women working to end and prevent domestic violence in our community.
Will you join us as a member during our 30th Anniversary year? It’s an exciting time and we would love for you to be a part of it!
