Team,
Vail Resorts became what it is today because two World War II veterans had a vision. In 1962, Pete Seibert of the 10th Mountain Division and Earl Eaton, an Army Engineer, founded Vail Mountain – it opened with just two chairlifts and one gondola. Now, more than 60 years later, the Vail Resorts network is home to 41 of the most renowned ski resorts in the world.
Our industry and company’s military roots run deep. Today, and always, we recognize our Vail Resorts team members who are past and present members of the United States Armed Forces, Canadian Armed Forces and Indigenous Veterans, and Australian Defence Force. We thank you for your service.
As a U.S. Army veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division, I understand how a connection to the armed services bonds individual and families, and the importance of career and leadership development for veterans. That is why today, as we prepare to honor Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada and Australia, I would like to invite team members to learn more about a new addition to the Vail Resorts Employee Inclusion Network: the Veterans, Partners, and Allies Affinity Group.
The Veterans, Partners, and Allies Affinity Group is an employee-founded and led community, and I am proud to serve as their executive sponsor. The affinity group’s strategic priorities include:
- Fostering culture and camaraderie for veterans and partners through connection and outreach.
- Identifying and capitalizing on opportunities for military and veteran community involvement.
-
Partnering with Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, and business leaders to support the hiring, development, and retention of top veteran and partner talent.
If you are interested in learning more about the Veterans, Partners and Allies Affinity Group or becoming a member, please complete this form.
I want to extend my gratitude to the over twenty team members across our network of resorts and corporate functions that worked together to form the Veterans, Partners, and Allies Affinity Group – exemplifying our Be Inclusive core value. Your leadership and dedication to Serving Others will have a lasting impact on our company and build upon our decades-long legacy of supporting and honoring veterans.
On this day of reflection, I encourage all our team members to learn more about Veterans Day, Remembrance Day and the tradition of Indigenous Peoples’ military service in Canada. Please find a moment to reflect on the meaning of today with gratitude for those who have served.
Thank you,
Bill
