By Charles Pulliam • Multimedia Reporter
MURFREESBORO – From one peak to another, Nolensville High School remained at the summit of Tennessee volleyball.
The climb certainly didn’t come easy, especially on the Class AAA state stage this week, but the Lady Knights survived a marathon trek through consolation play to capture a third consecutive state title and first in the school’s new classification.
“It feels like all our hard work has paid off, you know,” high-flying freshman and championship game MVP Kaira Knox said. “We proved that to ourselves and everyone.”
Nolensville raced to a 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 championship win over budding Williamson County rival Ravenwood Friday at Siegel High School, adding another trophy to the back-to-back Class AA ones from 2020 and 2019.

THOMPSON’S STATION – Despite being an out-of-region game, it was all Williamson County Friday. And it didn’t disappoint.
The Independence High School football team handed one of the top-ranked and previously unbeaten Class 5A programs their first loss with a 49-38 victory over Page.
“It was a great win for our program,” Indy coach Scott Blade said as his team added a high-quality victory to their resume heading into a Region 7-6A showdown next week at Ravenwood. “It was a great night for football with two teams slugging it out in an offensive showcase.
“If you like offensive football, you had a good one.”

BRENTWOOD – On a full moon Friday night, expect the unexpected. Never was that more in evidence than Friday night at Ravenwood High School during the Raptors’ 56-28 win over Pope John Paul II.
Ravenwood, which sits at 8-2 and 3-1 in Region 7-6A, got off to a slow start as the Knights (6-3, 3-1 Division II-AAA East/Middle Region) slammed the opening kick-off down the field for a leisurely score before tacking on two more by the eight-minute mark of the second quarter to take an early 21-7 lead.
The dominating quarter-and-a-half only served to sharpen the avian predators’ resolve, as the Raptors rolled off 49 unanswered points to turn a close game into a running-clock blowout over the next 16 minutes, including 35 in an eight-minute segment sandwiching halftime.

By Josh Vardaman • Staff Writer
Playing up a class didn’t seem to affect Nolensville at all Friday night.
The Knights (3-6, 2-2 Region 6-5A) scored 34 unanswered points en route to a 34-14 drubbing of visiting Franklin (1-8, 0-4 Region 7-6A).
“It was a huge win for our confidence,” Nolensville head coach Paul Derrick said. “Our kids fought and made some plays when we needed to. … I’m happy for our kids, and it gives us some confidence."

By David Dawson • Sports Writer
NASHVILLE — Last December, the Christ Presbyterian Academy football team won a thriller against Lipscomb Academy in the Division II-AA state championship game.
On Friday night, Alex Broome made sure the rematch didn’t turn into a rerun.
Broome, the Boston College commit, rushed for 189 yards and four touchdowns, and also added a TD catch, to help the Mustangs roll to a 38-0 victory over the Lions. The win allowed Lipscomb Academy to capture the DII-AA Middle regular-season title.
Broome recorded two short TD runs in the first half, covering six and seven yards, to go along with a 26-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Luther Richesson. Broome then broke loose for a 64-yard scoring run in the third quarter, and ultimately capped his night with a three-yard touchdown with 6:14 remaining.

By Derby Jones • Publisher
BRENTWOOD – The 22 Brentwood High School football team seniors made sure the Bruins finished without a losing record this season by defeating Beech 42-21 on Friday and winning their fourth consecutive contest.
The win pushed Brentwood to a 5-4 record overall and one win away from securing a playoff bid with a crucial matchup against Centennial looming in the regular season finale next week.
“Our senior quarterback, senior running back, senior receiver, several senior linemen took the game on their shoulders,” Brentwood head coach Clint Finch said. “When we get rolling, we can be pretty good, the seniors really stepped up tonight. And our defense continues to be a major strong point for us.”
