Get to Know 2017 Bridges Society Chair Angela Tatum
As United Way of the Capital Region’s campaign season begins, we thought it would be a great time for you to learn more about your 2017 Bridges Society Chair, Angela Tatum. We recently asked her to share her thoughts about supporting our community through the Bridges Society. Here’s what she had to say…
Why did you get involved in the Bridges Society?
I became involved because of the opportunity to network with other emerging leaders and be a part of something that has such a positive community-wide impact. For as little as $10/week, I can really make a difference in the lives of others.
What do you like most about volunteering with United Way and the Bridges Society?
I love the simple, impactful projects we do (like stuffing backpacks for kids) and the personal connections we make - whether with other members or with a third grader at our annual Barnes & Noble event.
What is your favorite Bridges Society event to participate in and why?
The first event I ever attended (and still my favorite) is the Barnes & Noble field trip with third graders. I’m always shocked by how quickly the morning flies by and how much fun I have with the kids. They always impress me!! I also enjoy the annual Bridges Society and Tocqueville Society joint event. It’s such an incredible event that offers an exclusive networking opportunity. I look forward to it every year!
What is your goal for the Bridges Society this year?
My goal for this year is for each of our members to invite a friend to join! We have a great time while doing good work. I think we all know someone who would benefit from joining us. Additionally, with the exciting rollout of United Way’s community pilot projects, I hope each of our members will consider an additional gift this year to help support this critical work in our community. I have pledged to increase my donation to United Way this year and I encourage each of you to consider joining me by increasing your gift by 10 percent. There are a lot of people counting on us. I know that we can continue to be the light and set the example in this wonderful community.
