Blackboard and Banner- A Love Story ♥️ |
Good news! Submitting end-of-semester grades to Banner just got easier thanks to a new integration between Blackboard and Banner. To take advantage of this union, there are a couple steps to make sure the correct grade column is submitted to Banner.
|
-
Navigate to the Grade Center and confirm that the final grade column is set as your external grade. (Hint: Look for the green check mark.) If it’s not, click the dropdown menu on the column name and select “Set as External Grade”.
-
If you use a letter grade as a primary or secondary display, make sure the Grade Center is using your department's grading schema. Go to Manage > Grading Schemas to review the letter grade schema. (Hint: the default Letter schema is not consistent with our letter grades, so it’s best to review this.)
|
- Navigate to the Gradebook and make sure you have set up an Overall Grade column in your course. The Overall Grade column is the only one that gets reported to Banner, so make sure you use it to calculate the final grade.
-
Similar to Blackboard Original users, you will need to confirm that you are implementing the correct letter grade schema. From the Gradebook, click Settings (gear icon in top right corner) and go to Manage Grade Schemas.
|
To Submit Grades to Banner |
At the end of the semester, Original users can go to Course Tools > Submit Grades to GWeb. Ultra users can go to Books and Tools > Submit Grades to GWeb. You’ll have a chance to review the class roster and grades before submitting. If you’ve set the final grade column as your external grade and implemented the correct letter grade schema, it will be super easy to transfer grades to Banner.

Helpful article alert. As the title implies, the recent article, Research-Backed Strategies to Spark Curiosity in Adult Learning, from the eLearning Coach blog dives into research about sparking curiosity. We liked that it provides practical suggestions and strategies for implementing four different ways to trigger curiosity in learners that could be used in your lectures, class discussions, and discussion boards.
- Introduce knowledge gaps, but provide a little information
- Leverage prediction errors
- Focus on high-interest skills
- Use the "Desirable Difficulty" Principle
Check it out!
