Tending Hope: Hebrew College's Annual Impact Report

“We are living through a historically challenging time. At times like this, when the winds of the present moment can threaten to overwhelm us, our tradition beckons us to look back and to look forward, to know that we are part of a larger story, to link our lives to memory and to hope.

In this Annual Impact Report for 2022-2023, we do just that. We draw inspiration from all that we have accomplished together over the past year, and we highlight the ways in which, collectively, we have been 'Tending Hope.'”

Soul Sounds Spring Concerts Begin in March with "Jewish Melodies from a Carpathian Farming Village"

Our spring concert series, presenting innovative performances of Jewish music, dance, and prayer from around the world, begins March 7. Join us for “Jewish Melodies from a Carpathian Farming Village” featuring Hankus Netsky (right), co-chair of New England Conservatory’s Contemporary Musical Arts Department and founder and director of the Klezmer Conservatory Band, and Hebrew College Rosh Tefillah & Artist-in-Residence Rabbi Jessica Kate Meyer `14 as they share spiritual Jewish melodies passed down to them by Morris Hollender z”l, the sole survivor of his musical village.

“Hebrew School for Adults”

Learning and internalizing information is only effective when one is ready and willing to receive it. Children have little agency over whether they attend Hebrew School. For some, it means missing Sunday morning soccer games or not being able to hang out with friends after school. Perhaps these experiences color their ability to learn and engage with Jewish tradition. Adults, on the other hand, can explore topics that match their interests and engage in ways that are meaningful to them.

Rejoicing in Others’ Joy

Imagine a world in which our tradition teaches us to rejoice in others’ simhas (joys) just as much as we rejoice in our own. Our happiness increases when we are content with our own lives and with the joys of others. May Moses and Aaron’s humility and joy for each other serve as an inspiration for each of us. May we be happy in the accomplishments and simhas of those around us, and may their simhas become our simhas.
