Dear Incoming Student,
I hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer! I’m writing today to check in with you about your gap semester plans. While many of you may still be in the beginning stages of making plans for September and beyond, others may be gearing up for new adventures in just a few short weeks.
Please complete your
Gap Semester Survey by
Monday, August 1st, 2022.
As a reminder, your gap semester is a chance to chart your own course. Past cohorts have spent their time volunteering, learning a new language, taking a college course, traveling, and exploring individual passions such as music, arts, reading, writing, and participating in sports.
Especially if you intend to take courses at another college or university, please complete this important step so that your NYU Steinhardt academic advisor can assist you in the approval process.
The following is a preview of what to expect in the coming months before you begin your courses in January 2023.
Fall
Online Orientation & Meet Your Peer Mentors
Beginning in October, you’ll learn more about your program of study and your class schedule for Spring 2023 in your Online Orientation Portal. You will hear from your peer mentor who will help you navigate the registration process in November. Your peer mentor is an upper class student who will serve as an additional resource and will be able to share a student perspective about life at NYU, course selection, and the registration process.
Your First Semester
New Student Seminar (SAHS-UE 1)
In your first semester, you will be participating in the New Student Seminar, where you’ll meet classmates in your major as well as peer mentors and instructors. During the Seminar, you will discuss themes from the
NYU Reads selection,
Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. We will use the NYU Reads selection as a guide to explore your role in our diverse, inclusive, and global community.
