Distracted Driving Awareness
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and Council Member David Little urges drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. A few seconds of distraction can have serious, life-changing consequences. With hands-free technology in most vehicles and phones, safety is within reach. Last year, Little sponsored an amendment making hands-free violations a primary offense. Let’s work together for safer roads.

Land Trust Donation
Council Member David Little recently presented a generous $30,000 check in District 2 discretionary funds to the Land Trust of North Alabama, supporting their Tollgate Greenway Project. This $1 million initiative will create a paved pathway stretching from the Bankhead Parkway parking lot, weaving through the scenic Monte Sano Nature Preserve. The project will enhance outdoor access and promote recreational opportunities for the community while preserving the natural beauty of the area.
Moon Tree Dedication
A loblolly pine grown from seeds flown into lunar orbit as part of NASA’s Artemis I mission has been planted at Monte Sano State Park. Representatives from NASA, the Alabama State Parks Division, Von Braun Astronomical Society as well as Mayor Tommy Battle and other local leaders gathered to dedicate the “Moon Tree.” The seeds spent four weeks in space before returning to Earth, marking a milestone in the Marshall Space Flight Center’s ongoing 65th anniversary celebrations. Located near the John Scoble Memorial Pavilion, the tree will be protected by fencing with signage to commemorate its significance.
Panoply Announcement
Council Member Little joined representatives with Arts Huntsville and Mazda Toyota Manufacturing to announce the details for the 2025 Panoply Arts Festival, set for April 25-27 in Big Spring Park. Over its four-decade history, Panoply has become the signature arts event in Huntsville. The festival kicks off on Friday, April 25, with live music, a juried Art Marketplace, STEAM activities, local food and more.

Protecting Established Neighborhoods
The City’s Planning Commission approved a rezoning request aimed at protecting established residential subdivisions. This decision addresses concerns raised by city planners, neighborhood advocates and homeowners about future development in these areas. The request is also a vital part of the City’s BIG Picture Master Plan. The City Council will make the final decision on the rezoning after a public hearing on the recommendation during their meeting on April 24.
