Greetings and warm wishes
from Alfredo Velasco

President & CEO
Friends,

We hope this message finds you and your family healthy and safe.  Because of you, your YMCA has been proud to serve the Greater Long Beach communities during this time of extraordinary need.  As illustrated below, your YMCA has kept its doors open throughout the pandemic, innovated relevant programming and is well positioned to support our communities regardless of what 2021 has in store for us.  With your enduring involvement and support, we are assured that we will get through this together and strong.  Please stay connected to your community and keep yourselves as well as your loved ones safe.  Have a blessed Christmas and New Year.
Yours in service,
Alfredo Velasco,
President & CEO, YMCA of Greater Long Beach

Advancing Youth Development

Day Camps for "Children of  Essential Workers" pivot to YMCA Camp Academy

YMCA Day Camps began the year as usual until the need arose to care for the children of essential workers. Before we knew it, schools were remote and once again the Y piveted to help those parents and students in need. This included homework help and assisting students with virtual teacher e-communications and lessons. In addition, the Y donated approximately 150 Chromebooks to students who did not have access to their school online courses.

We are thankful for our donors.

See our video below to see the impact made by your generous donation!

Los Cerritos Y Organizing food distribution ECE Food distribution

The Y distributes food to those in need.

  • Los Cerritos YMCA served 13,000 pick-up meals weekly for Bellflower Unified School District students who were no longer able to receive the breakfast and lunch at school due to the ordered school closures
  • ECE provided 500 grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches to low income preschool families weekly.
  • Community Development partnered with Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. for the second year and provided our community and families with over 230 full Thanksgiving meals and produce for the week.
