New Program Honors Iowa’s Volunteer Heroes
The State of Iowa has launched the Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) to recognize and reward the dedicated service of volunteer firefighters, emergency medical service providers and reserve peace officers. The program is administered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA).
Municipalities that establish an LOSAP can offer tax-deferred financial benefits or grants to eligible volunteers, with the State matching local funds up to $500 per participant. This new program encourages volunteer participation and honors those who keep our communities safe.
Municipality Application Period: December 1, 2025 – January 30, 2026
Eligible applicants must be municipalities that establish a qualifying fund, adopt program guidelines, and provide local matching funds.
A webinar will be held on November 19, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. to provide an overview of the program.
