When COVID-19 arrived in South Carolina in March 2020, we quickly took steps to adapt Safe Harbor’s programs and services in order to continue to meet the needs of our clients and community-at-large. As we worked through the many challenges to offering services, prevention and outreach during a global pandemic, we learned new skills, developed creative solutions and established new ways of serving survivors, their families and our communities. These adaptations increased our accessibility and flexibility, leaving us with new strategies for fulfilling our mission and vision that will last far beyond this time in our history.

Sexual Abuse in Relationships

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and while sexual assualt is different than intimate partner violence, the two issues intersect.

According to national resource, love is respect, "Sexual abuse refers to any behavior that pressures or coerces someone to do something sexually that they don't want to do.
Everyone has the right to decide what they do or don't want to do sexually, and not all sexual assaults are violent 'attacks.' Most victims of sexual assault know their assailant, and people of all genders and sexualities can be victims or perpetrators of sexual abuse."

Jersey Mike's Month of Giving

We'd like to give a BIG thank you to Jersey Mike's and everyone who supported their Month of Giving fundraising campaign in March.
The campaign culminated with Day of Giving on March 31st, when all 15 Upstate SC Jersey Mike's locations donated 100% of sales – not just profits – to Safe Harbor.

Together with our generous community, the Upstate Jersey Mike's locations raised over $92,000 for critical programs and services for victims of domestic violence and their children.
"I’m so grateful for the community support for Safe Harbor," says Jersey Mike's Area Director Dave Bockstahler, "I hope this sends a message to anyone suffering through physical or psychological domestic abuse in the Upstate; they will not be alone in their fight."
