Clerk's Clothing Drive to Benefit Homeless Population in Orange County

Each year, clerk employees vote on a service project. We have so far helped out Toys for Tots, local schools, and Habitat for Humanity to name a few. With roughly 50% of the vote, we will be hosting a clothing and supply drive in partnership with the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness, a non-profit organization committed to eradicating homelessness in Central Florida.
We will work closely with the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness to coordinate our collection and delivery of  the clothing and supply drive items to Orange County citizens in need.

For the month of February, all of our locations will be drop-off sites for supplies. We will collect:
  • Clothes (new or gently used): coats, sweaters, socks, scarfs, gloves, hats
  • Hygiene Products: diapers, toiletries (soap, shampoo, shaving cream, etc.)
I hope you'll join us in donating to this great cause.

Apopka Self Help Center Has Grand Opening

I am so pleased to share that we officially cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the Clerk’s Office Self Help Center in Apopka on January 30th.

We couldn’t do it on our own. A partnership with the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) allows us to offer low cost attorney consultations in Family Law, Small Claims and Residential Evictions on Tuesdays at our Apopka branch on Rock Springs Road.

The Self Help Center has been one of my biggest priorities, because many people in our community need affordable legal assistance. Self Help services are available in Apopka on Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Services include attorney consultations, form completion assistance, and notary and copy services. If you would like to schedule an appointment go to the Self Help Center section on our website to learn more.

Apopka Mayor Joseph Kilsheimer, other elected officials, and community leaders joined us for the grand opening. Click the video below to see the ribbon cutting.

Special “Sunshine Week” Edition of Legal Matters Forum Coming to you in March

Sunshine Week is from Sunday, March 11th to Saturday, March 17th. As part of this observance, we are hosting a special edition of our Legal Matters Forum. The topic for the March 14th forum is State of the Records: Access to Justice Made Easy for You. As the keeper of court records for Orange County, Sunshine Week is important because it provides an opportunity for our office to demonstrate our ability to manage court records efficiently and provide access to the public.

The presentation will focus on enhancements to customer service through technology and the expansion of our Self Help Center. Stay tuned to our social media and website for more information on who our presenters and special guest will be. You can start registering now for the forum to reserve your spot.

Instructional Video of the Month: Marriage Licenses

As I've mentioned the past few months, my office created an instructional video series called "Connect with the Clerk" as part of our efforts to educate and improve the customer experience. The series helps answer frequently asked questions and provides step by step instructions for important Clerk of Courts topics in English and Spanish. These short informative videos cover important processes. Each month, we have been highlighting one of these new videos.

In honor of the couples who took advantage of our Valentine's Day wedding special and the citizens who may have recently become engaged over the holidays, this month's featured video highlights the process of applying for a marriage license. The video explains more about the requirements, necessary fees and steps, and walks you through our time-saving eMarriage tool. Click below to view the video.

February Star Performer
Congratulations to Donna Cox, our Star Performer for the month of February. Donna is a senior deputy clerk from the Apopka/Ocoee branch. Teammates say she is an exceptional team player who is always willing to help others throughout our organization.

"Donna has the knowledge to work in several different areas such as Evictions, Small Claims, Passports, Traffic, Courtroom, Bonds, and Customer Service," said a colleague. "When questions arise in regards to these topics, Donna is always willing to help answer them."
