You’re invited to participate in upcoming AI research tools trials |
Trials of two AI research tools, Consensus and Scite, will run through Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, via Virginia’s Academic Library Consortium (VIVA). Click on a link below to try out these tools online. Participants can sign up for accounts on either platform using their institutional e-mail, which will give them access to the trial on or off campus networks. Trial access is also automatic on any on-campus network or VPN – no account needed.

- Consensus
Consensus is an AI-powered academic search engine. It summarizes insights from the literature (with citations), ranks the top 20 papers for a search and offers snapshots of individual studies. If a user enters a yes/no question, Consensus tags individual articles with yes, no, mixed and possibly, and provides a Consensus Meter that visualizes the balance of supporting and contrasting evidence.
-
Scite
Scite is an AI-powered research tool for discovering and evaluating scholarly articles. Smart Citations allow users to see how a publication has been cited by providing the context of the citation and a classification describing whether it provides supporting or contrasting evidence for the cited claim. Scite Assistant generates a summary of the scholarly literature on a topic, with cited references. Scite is also useful for impact analysis.

Separation EPAFs and checklist reminder |
The Radford University Department of Human Resources reminds supervisors that they are required to complete certain processes in a timely and effective manner prior to an employee’s separation date in order to ease the transition and safeguard the university.
Depending on the type of employee, a personnel action may be required to complete the separation. For all full-time employee and 1500-hour wage employee separations, supervisors must complete a separation EPAF (Electronic Personnel Action Form) as soon as possible after notice of the employee’s separation is received and no later than the separation date. More information on employee separations is available via Human Resources’ EPAF Frequently Asked Questions.
The completion and certification of a separation checklist are required for all employee separations to ensure all final processes are completed by the employee for payroll purposes, to collect university-owned property and to ensure that system access is updated. Supervisors must complete a separation checklist prior to the employee’s departure. Please see the separation checklist for student employees and all other employees, as well as employee separation procedures.

Accessibility upgrades coming to library resources |
By April 2026, vendors serving Virginia public institutions must comply with ADA Title II and WCAG 2.1 AA. This is a positive step toward more inclusive access, but the transition may be a bit bumpy. Many of University Libraries’ database and publisher vendors are still working on updates to meet these requirements. As a result, you may notice changes in interfaces or functionality over the coming months.
| |
University Libraries is updating instructional materials that include the Accessibility and Library Resources Guide and will keep you informed as vendors roll out improvements. If you have questions or run into accessibility issues, contact University Libraries.
