Welcome     Grow     Serve    Celebrate

*Sunday, April 19 we had some technical difficulties with our stream and were not able to share our worship service online. We apologize and hope to have everything back to normal this Sunday*
In May 2025, the bishops of the United Methodist Church released a vision statement designed to help the church live into the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world:

The United Methodist Church forms disciples of Jesus Christ who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously in local communities and worldwide connections.

They built this statement around the themes of loving, serving, and leading. The invitation comes, however, not simply through the words, but in the way they are described. We are not just called to love, but to love boldly. We don’t just hear a call to serve, but to serve joyfully. And we aren’t seeking those who will just lead, but those who will lead courageously. The adverbs add a spark to the statement.  For three weeks in worship, we join other United Methodists around the globe reflecting on what it means to love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously.  The hope is that with some reflection and attention, we can be inspired to embrace an adverbial faith.
Sunday, April 19: Love Boldly; Scripture: Mark 12:28-34, Lev. 19:9-18, John 13:34-35
Sunday, April 26: Serve Joyfully; Scripture: Psalm 100, 1 Peter 4:8-11
Sunday, May 3: Lead Courageously (fitting for our Baccalaureate Sunday!) Scripture: Joshua 1:5-9, Ephesians 6:10-18
It is almost time again to celebrate our graduates!  Please join us Sunday, May 3 for Baccalaureate Sunday as we recognize our high school and college graduates at our 10:45 service. Parents of high school graduates, if you didn't receive an email from the church office with needed info to plan for this day, please let Linda know, and make plans to join our youth for a Baccalaureate Brunch in the youth room at 9:30 that morning. Parents of college graduates, please let the church office know if your child will be finishing up so we can be sure to include them in the big day. Church family, stop by the youth room during the Sunday School hour (9:30 to 10:30) to wish our high school graduates well. If you would like to aid with food for our brunch, click here.  We do best the things we do together!
Big House Books
Between the members of PHUMC and Katie Cook and the English National Honor Society of Madison Central High School, nearly 1000 books were delivered to Big House Books Sunday. BHB Staff was grateful for this gift of “quality” books and for the group of volunteers who found themselves busily shelving the donations, reading inmate letters and fulfilling requests, logging the fulfillments, and packaging them for mailing. The challenge was for postage to get the materials into the hands of those eager for reading material. Click here to donate to the postage fund. It costs about $5 to ship a package of books. Thank you, PHUMC, for your generosity.
Your Gifts Matter!
We give thanks for a church that desires to live into our call to love our neighbor and we give thanks for all the ways your gifts allow us to do just that. This week we answered the call to aid Stewpot with much needed items so they can feed hungry bellies. We provided beds for an 8 year old girl and 12 and 15 year old boys so they can be housed with a relative, and we received a thank you note from East Flora Elementary for our donation of garden dirt for their planters and bird seed for their campus.
From East Flora: "Your kindness and support are truly appreciated and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. Because of your contribution, we are able to provide valuable learning resources and opportunities that enhance our students' educational, social, and daily life skills experiences. Your generosity supports us as we continue our mission of fostering academic growth and character development while providing a supportive, fun learning environment for all. The look of amazement, wonder, and excitement when the students watch the vegetables grow, pick them, and learn different ways to cook and eat vegetables, is indescribable. Thank you for your thoughtful gift."

Miracle Sunday is a global, connectional effort to create an endowment for theological education outside the US in Africa, Europe, and the Philippines with the goal of endowing 500 scholarships in perpetuity ensuring that courageous, well-prepared leaders can serve in some of the most challenging missional communities around the world.
Did you know that fewer than 5% of pastors outside the US hold a master’s degree in theology, compared to more than 71% within the US? Or that the US has 13 United Methodist approved seminaries while outside the US, there are 20. Further, the US has 1.2 billion dollars already in endowments and Ministerial Education Funds within these US seminaries. This is a gap we must and can address. Churches participating in Miracle Sunday will provide the funds to educate, equip, and empower pastors, create peace builders around the globe, raise up leaders who will do kingdom work in the midst of world wide politics. This is a sharing of resources to support those called, support the growth of the Christian church, and develop leaders together because no one person can do it alone. Thank you for giving generously.
