PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Dear Parents and Guardians,
One of the greatest gifts God has given us is our uniqueness. As we enter Advent and soon the Christmas season, we should be aware of this gift. How do we use it? Are we proud of it? Do we really believe that we are unique? Another way of looking at this is by interacting with other people, remembering that they are unique. Does this change our view of them? I offer you this reflection, someone gave me, to be a part of your prayer: ... Continue reading.

December Updates

De La Salle Toy Drive
(Nov. 15 - Dec. 19)

The 2018 De La Salle Toy Drive started on Thursday, November 15 and runs through Wednesday, December 19.
The Toy Drive supports the Bay Area Crisis Nursery, Holiday Helpers Warehouse in Martinez, Oakland Catholic Worker, Monument Crisis Center, and Running With Love – where De La Salle will bring toys to the migrant camps during the Ven a Ver Salinas Immersion.
Freshmen are asked to donate toys for ages 0-4, sophomores for ages 5-7, juniors for ages 8-10, and seniors for ages 11-13.
LADOUCEUR ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE CENTER
Construction of the Ladouceur Athletic Performance Center (LAPC) is underway.
Through the creation of the LAPC, we aim to fulfill a bold vision for our students. This state-of-the-art fitness center will better educate the whole person – in mind, body, and spirit.
The new facility will include a training center, coaches' offices, a conference room, a locker room, team rooms, and Hall of Fame lobby and reception area. Please visit our LAPC Webpage for a video of the facility renderings and additional information about the project.
An incredibly generous donor has agreed to match all donations and pledges up to $500,000, made by December 31. That means every dollar you donate will be DOUBLED until Monday, December 31, 2018 at midnight. In other words, your $100 donation will become $200, or your $10,000 pledge will become $20,000! We are so grateful to share this amazing opportunity and we are asking you to get involved.

To support The Perfect Effort Fundraising Campaign, please contact Mr. Mark Chiarucci, VP for Advancement, at (925) 288-8106 or email at chiaruccim@dlshs.org

CAMPUS MINISTRY

“The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.” - Dalai Lama

Thanksgiving Prayer was led by De La Salle students and faculty, challenging us to live the Lasallian core principle of inclusive community. We gave thanks for God’s abundant grace, and prayed for all those affected by death, illness, and tragedies, especially the fires that ravaged Northern and Southern California. And we kicked off the Advent Toy Drive.
  • On December 12, we will celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe in style, to be led by the Hermanos Unidos Club, moderated by Ms. Esther Lopez.
  • We had to reschedule the Junior Retreat due to the unhealthy air quality from the fires. The new date will be Friday, January 11, 2019.
  • Planning ahead, Kairos 118 Retreat (January 17-20, 2019) has two spots still open; Kairos 119 is full. Kairos 120 (February) and 121 (March) are filling up. Seniors, don’t wait!
  • There are still openings for the February 9-10 Parent/Son Retreat. This retreat is for either mom, dad or guardian and son. It is a wonderful opportunity to have great quality time together while you both evaluate and celebrate your relationship as parent and son. The registration deadline is Friday, January 11, 2019.

Make Your Annual Fund Gift and Take Advantage of Valuable Tax Benefits in 2018
As we approach the end of the calendar year, it is a great time to make a financial gift to De La Salle and receive tax benefits for 2018. You may also receive significant tax benefits through your gift of stock, securities or other real property based on the fair market value at the time of the gift. Contact your financial advisor to learn more about the benefits of making a gift of stock or a financial contribution. Contact Karla Wiese (925) 288-8195 for personal assistance in facilitating your gift.
If you happened to make a pledge, don’t forget to make a pledge payment today so that you receive your charitable deduction for 2018!
Make your gift online today by visiting www.dlshs.org/givenow. If you haven’t yet had a chance to make your gift this year, you can do so online through our secure server until midnight December 31, to have your gift acknowledged in 2018 for your tax purposes.

IN THE WORDS OF

SAINT JOHN BAPTIST DE LA SALLE
-----

"The love that Saint Nicholas had for the poor was surprising, for it led him to explore all possible ways to provide for their needs. This love led him in person, secretly during the night, to bring what is needed. The faith that must inspire you ought to make you honor Jesus Christ in their person and prefer them to the wealthiest children on earth, because they are the living images of Jesus Christ."
