Owl Spotlight
Senior Lily Sinaiwski has been at WISH since the beginning and it has been a privilege to watch her grow into an active community member, an environmentalist, and someone who cares about the world. She helped found the Environmental Fashion Club which focuses on reducing our carbon footprint, while also creating super cute ensembles. As an arm of FIDM's fashion club, the group takes field trips to spaces like the LACMA Alexander McQueen Exhibit and FIDM. She's also a Link Leader and loves the opportunity to show her school spirit and be a role model for younger students. Lily is a champion competitive Irish dancer and is looking forward to competing in Tennesee this summer. She plans on studying Environmental Policy in college and has already been accepted to LMU, Loyola University of Chicago, Pacific University of Oregon, Marymount Manhattan, and many, many more. From her fashion to her academics to her leadership, we love seeing Lily slay and we are excited to see all of the amazing things she does in the future!

In the Classroom
Physics and engineering just wouldn't be the same without the amazing Mr. Molenkamp at the helm, bringing these fascinating and complex subjects to life. As a founding WISH Academy teacher, he has continued to engage each new class by helping them to analyze and explain the world around them, solve diverse problems, and design solutions for them. Mr. Molenkamp is described by students as "cool and knowledgeable" and they say "he has high expectations, but supports his students,” making sure they understand every concept. His colleagues appreciate his cooperative spirit, depth of knowledge, and his dedication as a gifted teacher and staunch ally. When asked what he loves most about teaching at WISH Academy, he shared "It is my privilege every day to get to better know these amazing kids, to watch and help them explore how our Universe works, and to seek solutions to make it a better place for us all.”

Good TimesIt feels good to do good and our incredible WISH community came out in droves last Saturday to help clean up our local Toes Beach. Our Academy students were able to earn service hours, while also enjoying the beautiful weather and time with friends. After the clean-up, many stayed after to hang out, throw a football around and play beach volleyball. This special annual event kicks off our service learning quarter, and not only serves our greater community but builds our WISH relationships as well.

His efforts have helped lead his team to a second-overall finish in the Ocean League with a 10-4-2 record. The team will be "kicking off" their playoff run this week. Ej is an all-around star athlete who plans to play volleyball this spring as the team's starting setter. Owl Proud!

"I like that WISH has a variety of different courses to take. These opportunities have helped me realize some of my interests and passions that I didn't know I had, or at least, the extend that I had them." --Nia G., 12th Grade WAHS Student
Family
"WISH Academy has been a true partner to our family and we’ve built relationships with faculty and staff members over the years that have been incredibly supportive. My daughter, Lauren, is a senior this year, and had some amazing teachers that she has not only learned from, but who have truly cared about her success. She's been involved in a range of activities from Cheer to National Honors Society to being a LINK Leader. Attending WISH Academy has provided her with some unique opportunities such as RISE (a class promoting diversity and inclusivity that included charity work), helping to form an “Environmental Fashion Club," and showcasing her acting and singing abilities through various performances and original plays. She's currently hard at work rehearsing for an original play to debut this month, under the wonderful direction of Ms. Landon, the theater teacher in the Visual Arts Performing pathway. Recently Lauren gained invaluable expertise with Dr. Colon and her team to help with her college essays and applications for the UC schools. She has already been accepted to some terrific colleges, including one of her top choices, San Diego State University. We thank WISH for so much!
--Michelle Noble, Parent of WAHS Senior, Lauren
"I like working at WISH Academy HS because anyone can make a difference anywhere, but I believe that I make more than a difference at WISH HS. I help create experiences, mathematical meaning, relevant connections, and critical thinkers."
--Dr. Jennifer D. Branch, Calculus AB and BC Teacher and Assistant Principal
