Benard Diggs earns PhD in education after decades-long career at UMSL

Benard Diggs, who was a fixture at UMSL for more than four decades as a staff member, completed his PhD in education in December 2023, having previously earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the university.

Education student Teamir Melaku closing in on dream of becoming teacher

Teamir Melaku left Ethiopia at the age of 20 to come to the United States. After moving across the country twice, she enrolled at UMSL to pursue a career in education. In May, she will graduate from the College of Education with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with an emphasis in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL).

UMSL doctoral student Jason Thompson has been a counselor at Wydown Middle School since 2014. His talk at the School Counseling Summit by CharacterStrong focused on the ways in which he assists teachers, students and families and promotes school counseling at local, district and regional levels.
