2017 Chancellor Faculty Fellows Announced

Dr. Carlos Grijalva, M.D., was nominated and selected as one of the twelve 2017 Chancellor Faculty Fellows. Dr. Grijalva is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology, Department of Health Policy. He also is a member of the Vanderbilt Epidemiology Center and the Principal Investigator for a prospective cohort study that was recently conducted among Peruvian Andean children to evaluate the burden of viral respiratory infections and the interaction between respiratory viruses and bacteria. Dr. Grijalva serves as the Course Director for Epidemiology I in the Vanderbilt Master of Public Health program. Fellows are financially supported for two years in order to create innovative research, scholarship and other activities that propel the career of the awardee. The Vital Case for Global Health Investments

In his most recent article, Sten Vermund, M.D., Ph.D. argues the case for global health investments as a major opportunity to advance core interests of the U.S. and, at the same time, to improve the lives of millions around the world. At least four central tenets are at the heart of this global health engagement perspective: efficiency of disease control is maximized by early response, protection of our citizens, need for global health research and use of “soft power” for diplomacy to avoid and confront the humanitarian crises.
