Labor and Women’s Leadership Network Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by Volunteering

On January 16, labor volunteers and members of United Way of the Capital Region’s Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) made Martin Luther King, Jr. Day a day on and not a day off.

WLN and union members completed volunteer projects at Camp Curtin Academy, SciTech High School and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, all in Harrisburg.

At Camp Curtain Academy, volunteers organized the library to make books more accessible to children. At SciTech, volunteers helped create seating and back-drops for a new performance café for students. The Central PA Chapter of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists and AFSCME Council 13 members packed food boxes for seniors in need at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

Several volunteers also brought their children along to help. It was a fantastic opportunity to show the next generation the importance of giving back to our community.
