7 Reasons Why Giving to Valor is More Than a Good Investment

BY REBECCA JOHNSON, DIRECTOR OF STRATEGIC ENGAGEMENT
Not long ago a friend said to me, “I can’t believe how much Valor has accomplished in 20 years.”

I smiled and accepted the kind intention of his words before I corrected him. “The school isn’t yet 20 years old,” I replied.

While there’s a remarkable and humbling story of Valor’s founding, the reasons here represent our school community today and where we are headed.

Homecoming Week: September 10-15

This week, look forward to a full schedule of lunch activities, theme days, Powder Puff football (parents invited), Bonfire, Movie Night, the Homecoming football game, and dance! Students must still adhere to dress code guidelines on theme days.
Dance ticket prices are $26 each, or $42 for a couple. It is highly recommended that students buy tickets online to avoid a line at the dance. Semi-formal attire is customary.

Chapel Attendance Correction

Please note this correction to our announcement about Chapel attendance in the August 26 Weekly: Students will attend either A or B Chapel based on their assigned schedule, not based on their choice. Parents who wish to attend Chapel do not need to check in at the Academic Building front desk, just sign in at the Valor Center.

Closed Campus Reminder

As a reminder, Valor operates as a closed campus. The limited exception to this is for our upperclassmen. Juniors and seniors are allowed to go off campus on Tuesday and Thursday during business lunch only. At all other times, we expect our students to be present on our campus, building community and exhibiting “presence” in a way that reflects Valor’s core values.
If your student needs to leave during the middle of the day, please notify the Front Desk at 303.471.3000. The Front Desk staff will need to know what time your student will leave and when they will return.

Dual Credit Through Colorado Christian University

Many courses at Valor have been approved for concurrent enrollment (dual credit) with Colorado Christian University, meaning that students can earn college credit while taking one or more of our classes. Please refer to our approved courses to find out which courses are approved for college credit, and visit CCU's dual credit page to find more information and register.

Christian College Fair

In addition to our annual College Day (see below), the College Counseling Department is partnering with Youth For Christ Denver to bring 70 Christian colleges to Valor. Westmont, Wheaton, Point Loma, John Brown, Seattle Pacific and many more will be represented. This event will take place on Tuesday, September 25 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm and is open to the public, so bring your friends and family!

Emergency Alerts Communication Preferences

Parents, you should have recently received an email message about our emergency alert system through Rave Mobile Safety. You are already enrolled in the Rave Emergency Alert System with the contact information you provided to the school, so registration is not required.
However, you do have the option to set your communication preferences regarding phone, text and email alerts for snow days, early dismissal, lockdowns or other emergency alerts. You can also make any updates to your contact information.
There will be a test of this communication system on Sunday, September 23 at 3:00 pm.

New Discovery Experience Application Requirements

This year, Discovery experiences will require 4 to 35 approved service hours (depending on the trip, length, distance and difficulty) from all students who wish to apply. Please review our pre-approved service opportunities and instructions on how to submit approved hours.

Freshmen who would like to earn service hours before applying for a Discovery experience may serve alongside classmates in a Discovery group service event. Find details or sign up here.
