OLV mourns the passing of Pope Francis,
and we ask that our entire community pray for him and the Church.

We pray for God’s peace upon the spirit of Francis, our Pope;
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen 🕊️

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
APRIL NEWS
Winner, winner, Golden Apple dinner!!!! Congratulations to Mrs. Shelly Taguchi, our amazing PK3 teacher. Representatives from the Archdiocese of Washington presented Shelly with a Golden Apple for Excellence in Teaching Award. Mrs. Taguchi is an outstanding educator and we are proud and thrilled to celebrate her!
Our 8th graders willingly served as prayer leaders for Stations of the Cross each Friday and we are thankful for all the faithful parents who joined us and remember us daily in their prayers.
Our middle school students performed a dramatic interpretation of the Stations of the Cross -"Born for This," for our parish. Our prayers joined with thousands around the world as we prepared for Holy Week. Such a beautiful expression of faith.
First and Second Graders had an opportunity to explore and reflect on the Stations of the Cross using all five senses. Eight Graders provided hands-on experiences for younger students to taste, see, smell, and hear as they thought about the walk of love to Calvary, a simple but meaningful way to deepen their relationship with Christ.
The Blue Hawks were out at the ballgame! Our Third Grade families coordinated a glorious day at Nats Park and the Nats won!
Our 6th Graders had a wonderful day exploring the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the Saint JPII center and experiencing the Vocations Mass.
A few April showers didn't dampen the spirits of our early childhood classes as they ventured to a fairy tale puppet show at Glen Echo. Thank you to all the chaperones!
Congratulations to Mrs. Kalinski! She was selected for the Archdiocese of Washington "Shine Your Light Feature." Through her passion, faith and leadership, Mrs. Kalinski enriches the hearts and minds of everyone she encounters at OLV. We appreciate her incredible kindness and warm sense of humor in all situations. From English Language Arts classes to choir practice to school spirit and beyond, Mrs. Kalinski is a true blessing!
Fifth Graders visited the National Archives Museum. They spent time with the "Power and Light: Russell Lee's Coal Survey" exhibit considering the role of photography in communication.
Easter Week started with exploring Easter traditions and celebrations. Our 8th grader bunny boosters organized egg hunts for PK3-second grade friends. We look forward to continued Easter joy for the remaining weeks of the school year.

LAUDATO SI' - NEW TREES
On Monday, April 14th, OLV welcomed nine new trees to the MacArthur Boulevard hillside.
Father Andrew Gonzalo and Principal Sheila Martinez were on site with Casey Trees Urban Foresters Dana Gresham, Francis Siaya and Jamal Evans for the planting.
The new trees include four hornbeams, three willow oaks, a linden, and a red cedar. One willow oak was dedicated to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of Notre Dame.
These species, native to the region, were selected for their hardiness and ability to thrive in urban environments.  They will provide shade, safeguard against erosion, and importantly, add more natural beauty to OLV's grounds.
UPDATE: TUITION ANGELS PROJECT
Thank you to the 11 parents and friends of OLV who have responded to our Tuition Angels appeal, through which we are supporting OLV students in need of financial aid for 2025-2026 School Year.
We have raised $10,150 in donations and pledges, so we are $25,925 from our $36,075 Tuition Angels goal.
Please consider making a donation or pledge today.
The next group of donations adding up to $5,000 will be matched by the Nevins family. Thank you for your support!
