For The Love of Music
Ryan McDaniel ’07 found his place in the spotlight playing piano for his Brebeuf classmates. He has since followed that passion to Los Angeles, becoming a talented recording artist. Mixing soulful rhythm-and-blues and pop, Ryan’s music has garnered him followers across the nation.

“By day I go to work and do what I have to do, and by night, my focus is music; whether I’m performing or writing. You have to find time to do what you’re passionate about.”

Student Spotlight

Loves About Brebeuf
Brebeuf provides students with the opportunity to grow as a person. We are given the chance to go on retreats such as Kairos which allow us to learn more about ourselves. Additionally, Brebeuf offers a variety of courses which encourage new ways of thinking. Lastly, students can join clubs that allow them to try different activities and meet new people.
Favorite Class
My favorite class was Algebra I. Mr. Weinstein was my teacher and I was in his 8th period class. By the end of the day we were all pretty tired so we frequently got off topic, but I still learned a lot and had fun!
Future Plans
I plan to study Marketing or Entrepreneurship and minor in Nutrition Sciences. I am not sure where I want to go next year; however, Butler and Loyola University Chicago are my top schools.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Varsity Girls Golf
National Honors Society
Black Student Union
Peers Against Cancer Together
Work at Cyclebar Carmel
Minority Engineering Program of Indianapolis
Center for Leadership Development
Random Facts
I have a food blog on Instagram called BailsFoodDiary. It’s SLOWLY gaining popularity but I really enjoy doing it!
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc?
A lot of my friends make fun of me for this, but I really enjoy watching Jeopardy. My Dad and I like to turn it into a competition and we see who can get the most points by the end of the show. Besides Jeopardy, my favorite TV show is probably Parks and Recreation.
If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?
Dubai. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Dubai and it looks like a fun place to go on vacation.
Do anything exciting over Christmas Break?
I went to Belize for a week. We stayed on a very small island called Caye Caulker. On our trip I was able to go jet skiing, zip lining, cave tubing, and snorkeling. We had so much fun and I would love to go back!
You are now in your final semester at Brebeuf Jesuit.  Has that sunk in yet?
Definitely. A lot of the time I find myself thinking about all the things that I have done for the last time in high school. While it is sad to see that my time at Brebeuf is coming to an end, I am excited for college and the new experiences I will have in the next four years.

Scholarship/Financial Aid News and Announcements
The backbone of all financial aid is the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) which opened on October 1 at www.fafsa.gov and should be completed as soon as possible for the 2018-19 year. Many schools also require completion of the CSS Profile CSS Profile, administered by the College Board, which asks more specific questions and accesses additional funds. The FAFSA is free; the CSS Profile has a small fee.
The VAST majority of scholarships (merit aid) are found within the individual college admission/financial aid websites and academic departments. Be on the lookout for additional essays, recommendations/nominations, and deadlines for these opportunities at the colleges to which you’ve applied.
A round-up of non-institutional scholarships with upcoming application deadlines can be found on Naviance Family Connection in the “Document Library” (right side of the home page).
Many wonderful opportunities are also available through the Central Indiana Community Foundation. Application deadline: February 6, 2018. See CICF scholarships for details.
