Together, we'll explore the question "What makes a community?" (see some responses above) with community members including CJP President & CEO Rabbi Marc Baker and Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller. We will also honor six extraordinary women who have made a difference in our community—Beverly Bavly, Nancy Kaplan Belsky, Susan Schechter, Myra Snyder, Diane Troderman, and Jillian Segal, z"l.

Investing in the Future Spring Event Honoree Beverly Bavly
Growing up, Beverly Bavly’s family exemplified the word tzedakah. Her father, Joseph Gann, owned a small watch repair shop in downtown Boston that grew into a successful fine jewelry business. With ambition, long hours, and hard work, he developed a reputation for honesty, and built a loyal customer clientele. And, as he succeeded in the business world, he and his wife, Rae, in appreciation, gave back to the Greater Boston Jewish Community . . . .

Counting the Omer through Art
Rabbi Laura Bellows `18, Hebrew College's Director of Prozdor and Teen Learning, is teaching "Creating Each Day: An Omer Maker Space," a Hebrew College Open Circle Jewish Learning class. Each week, students study a new sephira, or Kabbalistic attribute, and learn from a new source, such as Hebrew College faculty member Rabbi Ebn Leader’s article on the subject.

Lag b'Omer: Starting Over Yet Again

On Thursday night (April 29) we will count and celebrate the 33rd day of the Omer. The Omer has a consistent rhythm to it—count seven days seven times, one after another, and they will lead you to the climax of the 50th day, standing at the foot of Mount Sinai . . . .

Prozdor Reunion
Nearly 50 Prozdor alumni from 1955 to 2019 reunited on April 27 for Hebrew College's first virtual Prozdor Reunion. The evening featured learning with Prozdor teachers Norm Finkelstein, Matthew Lowe, and Rabbi Laura Bellows `18. Alumni reconnected and shared blessings with 2021 graduates.
