| GWSB Tourism & Hospitality Professor Authors a New Book |
Herman Aguinis, Avram Tucker Distinguished Scholar, has authored a new book titled Research Methodology: Best Practices for Rigorous, Credible, and Impactful Research. This book takes a 360-degree view of understanding and doing research, helping readers become expert researchers, reviewers, and consumers of research. Renowned author, journal editor, and researcher Herman Aguinis distills the vast body of work on methodological best practices into a singular experience. Each of the 16 chapters thoroughly explains a different aspect of methodology step by step, from choosing useful and compelling research topics to reporting results accurately and credibly. Researchers at all career stages will find this text helpful to structure and conduct high-impact empirical research to produce a thesis, dissertation, or journal publication. Research consumers will find instruction on evaluating the rigor and credibility of research conducted by others. Instructors will find the book’s modular approach refreshing by assigning students the most relevant topics—from checklists of best practices to an in-depth methodology treatment. Filled with “how-to’s” and “dos and don’ts”, figures, hands-on exercises, and “Methods in Practice” boxes that summarize and apply best practices, this book is a must-have for anyone interested in producing or reading research.

China-US Tourism Symposium at the Nation’s Capital |
|
|
It was an absolute privilege for the George Washington University School of Business MS in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management program and GW IITS to facilitate the recent China-US Tourism Symposium on February 29, where distinguished delegates from both countries engaged in thoughtful discussions on revitalizing the tourism sector post-pandemic. The symposium underscored the mutual desire to enhance bilateral tourism, emphasizing the need for increased flights to facilitate people-to-people exchanges, addressing challenges such as payment convenience for tourists, and promoting cultural and educational exchanges.
The commitment from both sides to overcome current obstacles is commendable. The discussion and engagement during this #Symposium paved the way for a successful China-US Tourism Leadership Summit in Xi'an in May, reflecting on the strong willingness to foster a welcoming environment for tourists and strengthen tourism infrastructure. The conversations at the symposium highlighted the significant potential for tourism as a bridge between cultures, economies, and peoples. As we look forward to the recovery and growth of the tourism industry, it's clear that collaborative efforts and mutual understanding will be key to unlocking the vast opportunities ahead.
There were representatives from various U.S. government agencies — including the National Travel and Tourism Office of the Department of Commerce — as well as key figures from institutions such as the Brand USA, the U.S.-China Business Council, the Cruise Lines International Association, the U.S. Travel Association, international tourism and hospitality companies, #hiltonhotels & Resorts, #marriottinternational and Royal Caribbean Cruise, the George Washington University School of Business … totaling over 40 participants, actively participated in the Symposium. Dr. Larry Yu moderated the meeting.
A big thanks to the representatives of the #Chinese Embassy in the United States for hosting such a timely Symposium, Dr. Larry Yu and Dr. Cevat Tosunfor their extraordinary contribution to the organization of the Symposium, our current students, Ancheng (Mike) Shi SHI, Josslyn Gao, and Shane Harris (Mr. Bowtie Man) for their unmatched volunteer service, and all the participants for their creative, insightful, innovative and fruitful discussions.
GWSB MSTHEM program is proud to engage with the embassies of all countries, industry professionals, #US federal agencies, #internationalorganizations, multi-national tourism-travel-hospitality companies, and beyond!
