Dear Partner in Ministry,
It is with gratitude and hope that we announce the Session unanimously approved planning the official launch of the GPC250 capital campaign, Let Us Rejoice: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future. We are grateful to the many GPC members who provided feedback through the listening sessions in the fall and the focus groups over the last month. Your participation was instrumental as we sought to determine if the proposed case for support reflects the congregation’s priorities and vision for the future of Georgetown Presbyterian Church and if our congregation is ready to undertake a capital campaign. Based on your feedback, Wayne Spaulding of James D. Klote & Associates prepared a feasibility study with the comprehensive data, conclusions and recommendations for the church, which he presented to the Session.
Based on the congregational input as outlined in the feasibility study, the Session decided to move forward with the capital campaign goal of $8 million that would include the case for support as outlined in the focus groups:
- $1 million for Mission: Impact gifts to mission partners and a new mission engagement coordinator.
- $2 million for Worship: A new pipe organ that will elevate the quality of our music ministry.
- $4 million for Connection: Updated spaces and infrastructure that revitalize our historic church building.
- $1 million for Foundation: A permanent, Session-restricted Preservation Fund for long-term building stewardship.
The feasibility study noted that the congregational participation was lively and thoughtful and generally expressed strong support for the priorities in the case for support. There were some differences in the pillars' relative importance or priorities within a pillar, but overall, participants signalled alignment with the proposed goals and a willingness to support a capital campaign. The more detailed comments will help us to adjust the scope of the building and implementation phase in accordance with the desires of the congregation.
You can review the feasibility study HERE.
The Steering Committee will now get to work preparing for the launch of the campaign this spring. If you have any questions, feel free to speak with any committee member or email 250@gtownpres.org. Know also that we are planning more frequent communications and developing a web page that will house the information we send out and more.
Finally, we ask that you pray for our church as we undertake this momentous step to create a church that honors our past, lives out our vision, and provides for our community within and outside the church walls now and for generations to come.
With Joy and Hope,
The GPC250 Capital Campaign Steering Committee:
