Celebrating Key Healthcare Wins At The Capitol

The 30-day legislative session ended with some tremendous news: New Mexicans united to successfully make meaningful medical malpractice reform to protect and expand access to care.

The passage of House Bill 99 is an important step toward protecting access to care for New Mexicans in every corner of our state, including right here in the Mesilla Valley. This measure aims to ease the burden of excessive and unpredictable litigation costs that strain physicians and hospitals, while preserving patients’ rights to seek justice and hold providers accountable.

Stabilizing our state’s medical liability environment is essential to sustaining critical services, recruiting and retaining physicians, and ensuring that families in rural and underserved communities continue to have access to the care they need. As it stands, New Mexico is more than 5,000 healthcare providers short.

In addition to malpractice reform, a victory was seen with the passage of Senate Bill 1. This legislation authorizes interstate licensing compacts that allow qualified physicians licensed in other states to practice in New Mexico without redundant paperwork.

Thank you to everyone who supported these efforts and stood with us to protect access to healthcare in New Mexico. We will continue to fight for change!

MMC Makes A Splash At Battle Of 1-10 Rivalry Games

We’re still riding the momentum of the recent Battle of I-10 doubleheader, as we were thrilled to be the game sponsor for both exciting matchups at the Pan American Center. It was fantastic to see so many community members come out to support the Aggies.

The first 500 fans at the women’s game received limited edition MMC/NMSU rally towels, while the men’s game featured on-court recognitions for two of our many outstanding team members:

Mai Oushy, MD, MPH, proudly received the night’s game ball. Raised here in Las Cruces, she is a proud NMSU alumna who is passionate about family medicine and the well-being of our community. Dr. Oushy is beloved by her patients, as she has been voted Best Physician in The Bulletin’s Best of the Mesilla Valley for six straight years.

Additionally, Heather Howell, PharmD, was celebrated as our Difference Maker of the Game for making a big impact as our Emergency Department Clinical Pharmacist. Heather brings passion, expertise, and calm to critical moments, helping ensure safety and excellence in care for patients.

Our partnership with NMSU as the Official Healthcare Partner of Aggie Athletics is stronger than ever. Go Aggies!
