As a friendly reminder, our pool staff has headed back to school for the year. We will continue to have staff on the weekends through Sunday, Sept. 3, and limited items available at the snack bar to enjoy during the week. Without lifeguards during the week, the pool remains open, and swim at your own risk.
Here are some friendly reminders on pool rules below. Take a moment to remind your kids, tweens, and teens so we can work together in keeping everyone safe and happy at the pool.
|
- No jumping off rocks, slide, or lifeguard stands.
- No eating in the hot tubs.
-
Walking only on the pool deck.
- Kids must be 11 years old to come to the Ranch House without an adult.
We hope you had a wonderful summer!

Green Tip | Back to School |
Ready for environmentally friendly back-to-school ideas? First, take inventory of your supplies and reuse whatever you can – just because it's a new school year, that doesn't mean that you need to get all new school supplies. Often backpacks, pencil boxes, and other supplies like scissors can be reused from last year without buying new ones. If you pack your kids a lunch, include reusable utensils, containers, and a reusable water bottle in their lunchbox. To prevent food waste, be sure to pack only as much food as your child will eat and ask them to bring home food scraps to compost. Other ideas include buying used or recycled supplies and shopping locally for sustainable supplies when needed, getting books from the library, and utilizing public transportation or carpooling to reduce your carbon footprint. If the school is close enough, encourage your kids to bike or walk. This is a great opportunity to get your kids thinking about how their own choices can make an impact and begin to embrace environmental sustainability.

The National Sheep Dog Trials Return to Carbondale |
|
|
It has been 4 years since our valley enjoyed hosting the National Sheep Dog Trials. It is a large community effort of participants, spectators, volunteers, vendors and sponsors.
One of the most exciting opportunities is to sponsor a participating dog. For $100 you gain access to the event all week, keep track of your dog’s success and are invited to the barn party/dinner on Saturday night. It’s great fun mingling with the dog handlers that come from all over the country. If you think you’d like to sponsor a dog, you can find more information below. You can pick a specific dog or you can be assigned a dog. All dogs are winners to have made it to the finals.
There are lots of opportunities to participate in other ways as well; volunteer to work at the show or have a vendor booth and sell your work. Further info to come soon for volunteering. So mark your calendars to be at the Strang Ranch the last week of September.

Lightning & Thunder Pool Safety |
|
|
We understand it’s disappointing when pool plans are disrupted by thunder or lightning closures. Weather conditions can change suddenly, and everyone’s safety is a priority. If lifeguards are on duty, they are trained to follow Red Cross guidelines, which state to leave the water at the first sound of thunder or sight of lightning. This applies to the recreational pool, hot tubs, and lap lanes. These bodies of water will then reopen after 30 minutes of not seeing lightning, or hearing thunder. Depending on the closeness of lightning, you may also be asked to come inside the building, away from tables and umbrellas. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.
Did you know the Rifle pool is closed for the season following a suspected lightning strike on July 31? We’re glad patrons and employees are all safe. Read the article here: Rifle Pool Closes following Suspected Lightning Strike
