Educator Update

Hello 4-H Families,

I hope everyone is taking some time to recover after the fair. I enjoyed talking to many of you and seeing the youth show their animals and get their projects judged. The fair is a great reminder of the huge impact 4-H has on the lives of our youth. It made me proud to see how all of the hard work everyone put in over the past year paid off.

If you didn't participate this year, I highly encourge you to try it out next year. Also, the fair is just one way youth can show off the skills they're gained in 4-H. We will be having a speaking contest, performing arts festival, and Art U gallery night in the up coming months. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about any of these events.

Things are slowing down a little bit now that the fair is over, so the August Newsletter is going to be a little shorter than usual. You will still find information about our 4-H Race Night, reenrollment, and our new Promotional Kit in a Box. As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Announcements

Reenrollment Starts Septemeber 1st

Every year 4-H members and volunteers need to reenroll on 4-H Online. Volunteers will also need to take a short refresher training. Volunteers will not be certified until the training is complete, and therefor are not allow to work with youth.

Please complete your reenrollment as soon as possible so you do not miss out on any of the great 4-H opportunities.

Promotional Kit in a Box

Does your school have an open house or activity night? Are you looking to promote your club but don't know where to begin? Look no further! The Extension Office has a new Promotional Kit in a Box that is ready to be checked out. We even have some simple activities you can do with event goers!

Some of the items that you can borrow include:

4-H table cloth
Dunn County 4-H banner
Wisconsin 4-H Movement Banner
Display board with pictures of 4-H activities
County-wide brochures and handouts.

Reach out to the extension office if you would like to borrow any of the items for your club.

4-H Military Youth Group

Wisconsin State 4-H is looking to gauge the interest of current active and reserve miltary families to see if there is interest in starting monthly virtual or in-person programing specifically for military youth.

Arts Camp Counselors Needed

Wisconsin 4-H is looking for youth counselors for the 4-H Arts Camp, October 5 & 6 at Upham Woods. We are currently in the process of recruiting counselors for this experience. Counselors need to be in grades 9-13 and have some interest in the arts. Counselors will participate in a planning weekend September 7-8 at Upham Woods.

Counselors will help with camp planning, collaborate with fellow 4-Hers, learn about caring for campers, and build leadership skills. We also hope that they will have fun, feel a sense of belonging, and support the growth of arts in their local communities.
Youth need to complete the Application by August 19.

Upcoming Events, Programs, and Activities

4-H Night at the Races!

We are partnering with Red Cedar Speedway for the second annual 4-H Night at the Races! It will take place on Friday, August 16th. The Speedway is giving FREE admission to ALL Dunn County 4-H members!

We will have a pre-party inside the racetrack grounds with snacks and games, and everyone is invitied to participate in their Truck- Or-Treat event. We will also have our own section and go to the infield to say the 4-H pledge.

Fall Forum- Save the Date

November 2-3, 2024

Fall Forum is an opportunity for youth grades 7-13 and adult leaders to attend the statewide training weekend with county and state staff. The purpose of Fall Forum is to:

Provide an educational opportunity for youth and adult volunteers
Develop youth and adult partnerships
Create an engaging and welcoming environment to facilitate discussion between counties and regions
Encourage diversity of thought, perspective, interests, and people
Promote strategies for youth and adults to reach underserved and underrepresented groups

Fall Forum

County Project Meetings

County-Wide Project meetings are open to any 4-H member who meets the age criteria. If you are unsure about adding a project area, these meetings are an excellent way to explore and learn more. Reach out to the Extension office or project leaders for more information.

Projects can be added any time before May 15th in 4honline.com.

There are no County Wide Projects meeting this month. Check back next month for more exciting opportunities.

Support Opportunities

Trip Funding

The Dunn County Leaders Council is excited to help fund your 4-H trip or activity! The Leaders Council is committed to funding 10% of all state and national trips and activities. The Leaders Council may fund at greater amounts depending on the number of participants and budgetary allowances.

Youth Support Fund

The Youth Support Fund is largely supported by donations from community members and businesses. Its purpose is to reduce the cost barrier associated with 4-H events and activities. If you are planning to participate in a 4-H event and feel like you could benefit from this fund, reach out to the extension office at zachary.rozmiarek@wisc.edu for more information.
