Message from the Chair
Welcome to another issue of the Integral! This year has brought many changes to our department.
We are pleased to welcome four new faculty members this fall – Andrew Gatza (Mathematics Education), Steve Guo (Actuarial Science), Siyang Tao (Actuarial Science), and Jonathan Watkins (Mathematics Education). We are also saying goodbye to four colleagues. Retirees Gary Dean, Kay Roebuck, Robin Rufatto, and Susan Bourne have been a part of Ball State for a combined total of 124 years!
In this issue, we are pleased to highlight two recent graduates:
- Ahmad Alqarishi (’09), shares insight on valuable skills learned as an MA actuarial science student, professional opportunities, and the path that led to his current position as Chief Risk officer and Chief Actuary at Saudi Re.
- Ellen Weld (’13), currently a Visiting Professor at Sam Houston State University, discusses valuable skills learned as a Mathematics major, why she chose academic life, and offers advice to students considering this career path
