An Update on Loyola’s New Residence Hall |
Construction for Loyola’s new seven-story residence hall located at the corner of Freret and Calhoun is on schedule and expected to finish by Fall 2025. Crews have started interior and exterior finishes, including brick installation, wall framing, and flooring, so you can expect to see the building take shape over the next few months.
|
The new hall will provide apartment-style housing for more than 600 students, allowing significantly more of our student population to live on campus. Studies show that on-campus living improves retention and student satisfaction—reducing travel expenses, improving safety, and enhancing access to support services.
Key building features:
|
-
A substantial rooftop solar panel covering ~30% of the building’s electrical needs.
- Energy-saving systems like continuous insulation, occupancy sensors, and timed lighting.
- Full wireless coverage and hard-wired data connections for seamless streaming and heavy usage.
- A central courtyard and community room for campus-wide events and gatherings.
- Safety measures including access controls and an emergency generator for critical systems.
|
The Room Selection process for returning students will open in January 2025. Returning students can select to live in the new residence hall based on availability during this process. Look out for further details from Residential Life on room options and features as we approach early Spring 2025.

November Spiritual Reflection |
A Message from University Chaplain Thomas Ryan, Ph.D.
Every twenty-five years, the Catholic Church celebrates a Jubilee Year. The next one in 2025 focuses on hope and has as its theme “Pilgrims of Hope.” Earlier this year, Pope Francis published his autobiography entitled Hope. In 2017, he gave a series of reflections on hope.
|
| |
|
In one of them, he describes a person of hope as someone who, when “the sky is cloudy, … knows how to talk about the sun,” someone who is “convinced … that no evil is infinite, no night is without end, no man or woman is definitively wrong and no hatred is impervious to love.” The Jubilee Year of Hope actually begins this Christmas when Pope Francis opens wide as a form of welcome the main doors of the Basilica of St. Peter. The point of entering a church is not to stay there. In fact, the word “Mass” comes from the Latin word “to send.” A Catholic Mass really is a sending forth. May this Thanksgiving and Christmas season be a source of hope for you so that, nourished by that hope, you might yourself be a witness to hope.
|
Resident Ministry will host a free Thanksgiving Brunch on Sunday, December 1, from 10 a.m. – noon in the Orleans Room for students staying on campus. No sign-up necessary, all residential students are welcome!
|
Mass and Pancakes is December 8! Students enjoy this late-night tradition feeding their mind, body, and spirit as they gear up for finals week! The evening starts with a reflective Mass in the Audubon Room at 9 p.m., followed by stacks of delicious pancakes served up by student leaders, faculty and staff in the Orleans Room. Resources are shared by campus departments who are here to support your students through every part of their journey. Mass & Pancakes brings students together for a night of faith, food, and fellowship, offering a chance to unwind and connect as they prepare for the semester’s final stretch.
