What's The Haps in Key West?

A lot happening in paradise over the next few months. If you haven’t decided on a date for your next visit, this may help you narrow it down. Whether it’s one of our whacky local fundraising events, a concert at any of our new venues, or just a movie with your sweetie…there’s something for everyone. While this list doesn’t cover everything happening, these are some of our favorites and hopefully will become some of yours.
  • Aqua Idol - Benefiting the Waterfront Playhouse. It’s Idol…Key West Style.
  • Big Boat Bingo - Play Bingo, take a tour, support our history.
  • Vibrator Races - NASCAR out of the Nightstand. Benefiting the MARC House.
  • Key West Theater - Small venue, big surprises, never a letdown.
  • Tropic Cinema - By far the best spot to catch a movie with your special someone.
  • The Blue Angels - March 30th & 31st. Contact the front desk for tickets aboard one of the boats and view the show from the water.
  • Conch Republic Days - April 19th - 28th.  Our Independence Celebration. Learn just how Key West seceded where others failed.
Always check out our Events Page too for annual and one-off occasions.

Spring is in full swing in our fair city of Asheville!

Connect Beyond Festival - April 5th-7th
This festival utilizes cutting-edge music,  captivating films & inspired storytelling to create connections. Join distinctive minds of today to explore being a catalyst for change, expand your horizons with short films & documentaries, then get your live music fix with a wide range of performances! Think of Austin’s South by Southwest.
May 17th brings the return of one of our favorite outdoor music series, Downtown After 5! Every 3rd Friday, May- September from 5-9pm, thousands gather on the fun & funky N. Lexington Ave to enjoy music + regional craft beer & food. Admission is free with $2 wristbands required for food & beer purchases. All proceeds benefit local non-profits.
The Princess Anne Dining Room opened to the public this past October & response has been great! We are open Friday & Saturday evenings for dinner, featuring a creative take on classics. Seating begins at 5pm. Our delightfully Southern with a twist Sunday brunch is open weekly from 11am-3pm. On the 3rd Wednesday of each month, we present special dinner pairings with local purveyors. These prix fixe, multi-course meals focus on partnering with seafood, cheese, wine, beer (& more!) vendors to bring diners a unique & delicious experience.

California Life

Have you been to San Luis Obispo yet? We have had quite a few regulaaars  come out and so far so good. Did we mention Oprah calls San Luis Obispo the happiest place in America? We will be closed for a few weeks while we finish some updating to the B&B so stay tuned and book now. With over 350 wineries in the Paso Robles area, I would say there is quite a bit to do.

Getting to know Paso Robles

Zinfandel Weekend
Once a year Paso Robles toasts our heritage variety, Zinfandel. The 3-day celebration features winery events, a Zin seminar, and the Z After Party.
SLO Film Festival
Welcome to Tin City, an industrial epicurian playground that has grown into a mecca for food, wine, beer and cider travelers from around the world. Paso Robles filmmaker Dina Mande profiles the creative souls who introduce us to their unique world.
California Mid State Fair
The California Mid-State Fair is held annually and runs for 12 days at the end of July. The Fair has hosted some of the biggest names in the music industry.

Our Picks

Now for our recent charity pick. Kiva.org is more of a lending charity. It works by you choosing who you would like to help and loaning them money on an interest-free loan. Then they repay and you can reloan the money. People from over 81 countries submit so there are all sorts of things to choose from such as arts, education, small business, refugees and more. For as little as $25 you can keep a donation going for years. It's a great way to help a broad number of people for whatever you think personally is most needed at the time.

Music Picks and the Boys

The Formerly Brothers (Amos Garrett, Doug Sahm & Gene Taylor) have a couple CDs.  ‘Return of The Formerly Brothers’ (1990) Live in Japan’ (1991). I’ll let you tell what genera these beauties belong in.
Another favorite from over 20 years ago is Wayne Hancock’s (1995) first of many, ‘Thunderstorms and Neon Signs’. I must have listened to this disc over a hundred times. This is one of the few CDs that I recommend listening to every song.  Dim the lights, catch a buzz and let Wayne serenade into the night.  Lee, an old friend in Colorado, reminded me of Wayne and this CD jumped into my mind.
Eden House and I lost a couple of very good friends over the last several months. Ira Dorchan and Jack Heller were both very special people and they will be missed by everyone that met or knew them.
Rock on boys!
