After five decades of dedicated 4-H service across three states—including 16 years right here in Wisconsin—we wish 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator Doug Thompson a very happy retirement. Throughout his career, Doug taught youth critical life skills that reached far beyond marksmanship. While we will greatly miss his leadership, Doug is ready for his next chapter. He already has plenty of retirement plans lined up, most of which involve a boat, a fishing pole, and the open waters of the bay. Thank you, Doug, for your incredible legacy!

| Brown County 4-H brought hands-on science to Breakfast on the Farm, hosted by Tinedale Farms on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
Youth visiting the 4-H booth learned the mechanics of freezing by making their own bite-sized DIY ice cream using flavored creamer, ice, and rock salt.

Green Bay Summer Meals Program |

Learning doesn't stop when school lets out. Neither does the need for good nutrition!
This year's Summer Meals Program started at community sites on June 10, 2026. Meals will began at summer school buildings on June 15, 2026. ☀️
All children (not only GBAPS students) 18 years old and younger can receive free summer meals from GBAPS. Families do not have to qualify for free/reduced meals to participate.

| Reminder: Injury/Incident Reporting |
With our summer 4-H programs in full swing, UW-Madison Extension wants to remind everyone about the process for reporting injuries or incidents.
HIGH RISK Injuries/Incidents
HIGH RISK Injuries/Incident MUST ALWAYS be reported to your 4-H Program Educator. A high-risk incident poses a serious risk to an Extension/4-H Volunteer(s), Extension/4-H Program Participant(s), or third party. Examples of High Risk Injuries/Incidents include:
|

Injury of employee, volunteer, participant, or third party that requires professional medical attention.
- A threat of serious harm to self or others.
- Anything requiring intervention by police (e.g. missing child, safety concerns).
- Hazardous materials exposure or spills.
-
Termination or withdrawal of a volunteer, participant, or third party with potential intersections with civil rights, e.g. concerns regarding discrimination.
- Critical staff errors, such as incorrect administration of medication, or an injury caused by a staff person.
- Concerns for possible claims of negligence or liability.
- Vehicle accidents with personally-owned or rental vehicles on official UW business.

IMPORTANT: The report must be filed within 48 hours of the incident.
LOW RISK Injuries/Incidents
LOW RISK Injuries/Incidents typically DO NOT need to be submitted. A "low risk" incident is one where the impact to an Extension/4-H Volunteer(s), Extension/4-H Program Participant(s), or third party is both minor and temporary. Low-risk incidents typically do not require a report to your 4-H Program Educator. Examples of Low Risk Injuries/Incidents include:
|

Minor injuries e.g. scrapes or bumps to the body that do not require medical attention beyond basic first aid.
- Non-communicable illnesses that result in a volunteer, program participant, or third party needing to sit out of an activity or to be sent home.
- Behavioral problems, or verbal conflicts between participants, parents, or volunteers that necessitate staff or volunteer intervention.

Other incidents at the discretion of the Extension Employee (4-H Program Educator) that do not rise to the level of a high-risk incident.
|
Note: There is some grey area within these examples, so contact your 4-H Program Educator and they will use professional judgement on what next steps should look like. When in doubt, treat an incident as "high risk."

For the second year, we are opening nominations for the Wisconsin 4-H Volunteer Awards! These statewide awards seek to honor the outstanding volunteers that support and help grow our programs and impacts!
There are 3 categories:
|
- Emerging Volunteer of the Year (1-5 years of service)
- Outstanding Club Leader of the Year
- Outstanding Project Leader of the Year
|
|
|
|
Applications are open in 4-H Online and include a short essay with some guided questions. The applications are open through August 1, 2026, and we encourage everyone to submit a nomination! A committee will review the applications, and the award recipients will be recognized at Fall Forum in November.

Advertising/Billboard Contest |
|
|
|
|
The Brown County Fair Association is sponsoring a competition for 4-H Clubs and FFA to display their talents by helping to advertise the Brown County Fair. Each participating club will be given a board to create a sign that will advertise the date of the fair and will be displayed in their community. The signs will be judged and prizes will be awarded. Participating organizations will also be recognized at the fair.
The top 3 winners will receive $100, $75, and $50 respectively. Participating clubs that do not win will also receive a small monetary award.
