Welcome Back!

As we begin the start of a new academic year,  the Office of Student Veterans wants to extend a warm welcome back to campus. The start of the Fall 2020 semester is a great time to become reacquainted with familiar faces of friends and faculty and begin to make new acquaintances. For those returning to Duke, we are glad to have you back as you continue your academic journey.
For new students just beginning at Duke, we are eager to introduce you to our military-affiliated community. Be encouraged to connect with our office, graduate assistant, or other members you meet throughout the year.
Watch this video made by our office, student veterans, and military-affiliated community to welcome you!

We Need Your Voice

This is an unprecedented time. Still, the student veteran and military-affiliated community experience is of great importance to our office. The new academic year is a chance for all of us to create and contribute to a welcoming community that embraces student veterans and military-affiliated members across campus.
As we creatively respond to changing circumstances, we want to know your Fall 2020/Spring 2021 programming and newsletter preferences so that we can focus on what matters most to you.

Virtual Office Hours

The Office of Student Veterans will be holding virtual office hours Monday 9:30AM-10:30AM, Wednesday 10:00AM-11:00AM and Friday from 1:00PM-2:00PM to serve you remotely.
To join OSV office hours log into Zoom and enter meeting ID: 3602279256.
If you would like to meet outside OSV virtual hours, please email our graduate assistant Steph at stephanie.hilton@duke.edu. She'll be happy to schedule you to meet with someone in our office.

Meet Our Community: Ashley Hawkes

Ashley is starting her second (and final!) year of Master of Public Policy studies at Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy. Prior to her studies at Duke, Ashley was a Senior Product Manager at GE, where she defined strategies to capture business opportunities in new sectors and regions.
Before her time in Corporate America, she served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force as an Acquisitions Program Manager for an array of Air Force aircraft systems. Ashley proudly continues her military service, part-time, through the Air Force Reserves at the Air Force’s Acquisition Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
Seemingly yesterday, Ashley received her undergraduate degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy. But today, she enjoys spending time with family, nature walks, and socially-distant Zoom hangouts with friends.
Ashley is on a team spearheading the Sanford Veterans Association. If you are at Sanford and interested in getting involved, email her at ashley.hawkes@duke.edu

Join the Student Veteran Council!

Our graduate assistant Steph will be virtually convening a Student Veteran Council this semester to connect with the student veterans from across campus. If you are interested in representing your school or program, please reach out and let her know!
For any questions or more information, please email Steph at stephanie.hilton@duke.edu.
