Q&A With WLN Chair Valerie Pritchett

United Way of the Capital Region’s Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) welcomes its 2016 chair, Valerie Pritchett, news anchor for abc27. We recently asked Val to share a little bit about her background, her history with WLN and her vision for the future. Here’s what she had to say…

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

A: In addition to working as a news anchor at abc27, I’ve always been a community volunteer. When I turned 18, I actually became a volunteer emergency medical technician. I’m an Air Force dependent (or brat as we are jokingly called) so I come from a family devoted to service.

Q: How long have you supported United Way and why?

A: I am proud to say that I have been working with United Way for more than a decade. I support United Way because I think the purpose of my life’s journey is to better the lives of others; to help those who need it and to contribute in a positive way to my community.

Q: Why did you join WLN?

A: I joined WLN because I like the hands-on projects we do. I also like that I’m surrounded by strong women leaders and role models in this group.

Q: What would you like to see WLN accomplish?

A: I would love to see us grow the number of members and our donations to United Way. There is always an opportunity to give more. I’d also like us to do as much community service work as possible.

Q: Why should women join WLN?

A: Join WLN and be a part of a group that is truly making a difference, a hands-on one, from making meals for those in need, to gathering food items for kids to eat over the summer, to improving education.

Q: What do you aspire for the Capital Region?

A: I aspire for us to truly LIVE UNITED. I also aspire for people flock to our community for an outstanding quality of life.
