University Ministry: FlowersApril 9, 2024
| |
Thérèse of Lisieux, a 19th century Carmelite, now Saint and Doctor of the Catholic Church, once wrote “The splendour of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not rob the little violet of its scent nor the daisy of its simple charm. If every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loveliness.” As our campus welcomes new life blooming at every corner, we are reminded that the beauty in each of us is the blend of our unique talents, gifts, and contributions. Just as each flower gives off its own unique fragrance and lavishes us in color, so do each of us contribute to the beauty of this world. As we head into the final weeks of this semester, let us pause to take in the beauty of all that is emerging around us and the unique beauty of our community.
Happy continued Easter season! To our Muslim community, happy upcoming Eid. Eid Mubarak!

| Co-Creating a Hope-Filled Future through Jesuit Education Call for Essays
One of the priorities guiding Jesuit education today is journeying with students in co-creating a hope-filled future. A group of USF faculty and student-facing staff has spent the year reflecting on the mission of Jesuit education, and we want to hear from students. We invite all USF students to write a 750-1200 word essay on one or both of the following questions: When and how have you been accompanied at USF? What does a hope-filled future look like to you?
Submissions are due April 12 and should be sent to Erin Brigham: embrigham@usfca.edu. Selected essays will be featured in the Lane Center’s annual publication, Pierless Bridges. Authors will also receive a $50 giftcard to the USF bookstore.
All students, regardless of whether they participate in the essay contest are invited to conversation over lunch on the topic. This gathering with faculty and staff will take place on Tuesday, April 23 at 11:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m. in KA 144. Register for lunch »
Please reach out to Professor Erin Brigham with any questions.
