Peers Select Sokolov as ASEM Fellow |
Dr. Alexandr Sokolov, assistant professor of engineering management and program director, has been named Fellow in the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). The designation is for individuals who have shown long‑term commitment to the Society and made exceptional contributions to the engineering management profession. Candidates must have at least eight years of ASEM membership and must show significant accomplishment in two key areas. Active ASEM Fellows make final selections after nomination reviews.

| Wimpy Selected for AI Upskilling Program |
Dr. Cameron Wimpy, associate professor of political science and department chair, was selected by the Oxford Martin School at the University of Oxford as an Inaugural Fellow in the AI Upskilling for Social Scientists program, part of the Martin School’s AI Governance Initiative. Wimpy will study the relationship between AI and authoritarian politics and democratic backsliding. After online workshops, he will travel to Oxford in the fall for the program.

Webb and Bouldin Track Forever Chemicals |
Dr. Sarah Webb (left), assistant research professor, Ecotoxicology Research, and Dr. Jennifer Bouldin (right), dean, Sciences and Mathematics, are co-authors of a study published in the Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology. They researched PFAS, commonly known as “forever chemicals,” in waterways surrounding the former Eaker Air Force Base at Blytheville. They found elevated levels linked to firefighting foam historically used at the base and evidence that these chemicals have moved into surrounding waterways.

| Kumar Edits Special Journal Issue |
Dr. Nilesh Kumar, instructor in management, was lead guest editor for a special issue of Journal of Nursing Management. Themed “Empowering Nurses through AI: The Critical Role of Leadership in Shaping the Future of Healthcare,” the issue explores how healthcare leaders can ethically and effectively guide the integration of artificial intelligence. The research also looks at how digital leadership drives staff nurse collaboration with generative AI. The issue is online.

Sheppard Presents on Generative AI |
April Sheppard, associate dean, Ellis Library, presented at two conferences on the role of generative artificial intelligence in libraries. At the Lifelong Information Literacy Conference, they co-presented "Rethinking Digital Literacy Training: Cultivating AI-Aware Learners." They also participated in a panel at the Generative AI in Libraries Virtual Conference, which explored the impact of generative AI on library work and featured Claude as an AI panelist.
