Re:treat!! Tonight!!
Alongside other events across the state aiding individuals in understanding Congressional and Legislative redistricting, Parkway Hills will host an evening of conversation and discussion including a time of Q and A with State Representative Zakiya Summers and Senator David Blount beginning at 6:20 tonight following a poppyseed chicken meal. We hope you share the news and reach out to your friends who may wish to participate and invite them to join us.
Youth and Bridge will have a Game Night in the youth room. PHUMC Kids will have a game night incorporated into learning how to use their Bible.
Meals are $9 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, with a $30 family max.
Because of Fall Break, there will be no Re:treat next Wednesday, October 7th.

Congregational Care Team meets this Sunday, October 4 immediately following worship.  This monthly group meets in room 108 off the Garden Room to pray for members of our church family and write notes of encouragement and support. You don't have to be a member of the care team to come to one of the monthly gatherings nor do you have to come every month. If you want to be a part of this comforting ministry, we invite you to join us any month you are able on the first Sunday following worship.
We hope you will join us for our annual Women's Ministry planning meeting Saturday, October 17, at 9:30 am at Fusion Coffeehouse, 1111 Highland Colony Parkway.
The goal of the Women's Ministry at Parkway Hills UMC is to provide opportunities for creating community for the women of the church as well as reflect on what the women of the church can offer the Madison County community. All are welcome to come and join in the conversation, offer ideas, or just listen. Can't make the meeting but have ideas of how to create community or serve our community? Email Pastor Dawn.

Calling all Laity!

Is God calling you to something deeper?  If so, I want to encourage you to begin (or continue) the Lay Servant Journey.  Lay Servants are specially trained and equipped for more than leadership. They are empowered to answer the Call of Christ in new and exciting ways. The Capital River District is excited to announce our 2026 Lay Servant Training day will be Saturday, October 17th at Brookhaven FUMC.
Tentative agenda is:
8 a.m. - Registration
8:30 a.m. - Lay Servant classes begin
Noon - 1 p.m. - Lunch
1 p.m. - Resume Lay Servant classes
3:30 p.m. - Adjourn

Once you have registered for your class, a “pre-class” assignment will be emailed to you. It must be completed and brought to the event or submitted as instructed.  Following class, there will be a similar “homework” assignment that will be submitted later. The course requires 10 hours of instruction.  Six hours will be in person with the assignments completing the remaining four.
This year, we are offering the following classes:
Basic Lay Servant Class - Mrs. Vera Thomas, Conference Lay Leader
This is the initial REQUIRED class. If you have never taken a Lay Servant class before, this is your first stop.
ADVANCED COURSE:  Leadership Worship -
Rev. Michelle Bailey, Gulf Pines District: Worship is more than preaching.  Learn to develop services where our people encounter the Risen Christ.
ADVANCED COURSE: Preaching - Rev. Trey Harper, Capital River District Superintendent: How to craft a sermon and share the Word in ways that connect with God's people.
ADVANCED COURSE:  Fear of the Other:  No Fear in Love - engaging the outsider and the stranger in love - Kayra Johnson, Associate Conference Lay Leader: How to develop a heart for all God's people that empowers our congregations to reach out to find similarities and not differences.
Register here....Deadline for registration is Oct. 9. If you do not preregister, you cannot attend.
The cost for a class is $75, which includes snacks, lunch, and your textbook, which will be distributed at the event. If you have any issues registering, contact rcrosby@mississippi-umc.org or call the Capital River District Office.
Appreciate you all!
