MID-WEEK DEVOTIONAL FROM PASTOR JIM
I'll Wear A Hat
We’ve all experienced major changes in recent weeks, but one of the minor inconveniences of the virus has been the lack of ability to go and get a haircut.
Some would think that with the help of my wife and five daughters, I would be in good shape. Well, the conversation that occurred behind my head while they gave me a haircut convinced me otherwise.
“How about a mullet, dad?” I had one once, no thanks.
“Mohawk?” No, I don’t think anyone will take me seriously as the campus pastor.
“Oops, how are we going to fix that?” Not something you want to hear while getting a haircut.
“I might have a future in doing this!” I don’t think so.
Let me just say that I’m thankful and praising God for three things right now. The long and short of it are: (pun intended)
- God in His goodness gave me hair that will grow back...I think?
- A new admiration for the simplicity of my parents and the regular old #2 summer cut.
- My closet is full of ball caps (many of them Valor) so that I can wear a different one for each day of the month.
If “necessity is the mother of invention”, we have all learned during this time to do and perhaps be different than before. Many good possibilities have and will continue to come out of this. Let’s embrace these opportunities with joy and a teachable spirit, ready to change for the better and accept what God may have for us.
In the timeless words of Queen Esther found in the Bible book of the same name, we are all here “for such a time as this”.
And in such a time as this, with joy on my face, I’ll wear a hat!
