A Banner Year

In their first year of competition at the 5A level, Valor Athletics teams found success across the board (and the year isn't over yet!). Congratulations to all of our student-athletes, coaches, and athletic administrators who fearlessly took on the challenge and continue to give God the glory through sport.
Several senior athletes look back on what they've learned in their sport at Valor in the Why I Play series.

Evaluating College Athletics Beyond Playing Time

Bill Bufton
College Recruiting Coordinator
One of the things I always find myself telling families who are looking for guidance in their athlete's college decision is to find the best fit for 24 hours a day, not just 3 hours.
It's easy to make the mistake of choosing a college just because of what they offer in the portion of the day when students participate in athletics, but there are so many other important factors to consider. How does the coach act with their players during practice, not just on a recruiting visit with you? Does the school feel like good academic fit that will set up your student for success after their athletic career is over? Do you enjoy things about the campus life outside of sports?
I recommend this article, "A 13 Point Checklist for Evaluating A College Athletic Program Beyond Playing Time", if your student is even considering pursuing their sport at the college level. I share articles like this all the time on the College Athletics Counseling page, and you are welcome to shoot me an email if you'd like to talk in person about your student-athlete's future.

Academic Awards Night and NHS Inductees

Congratulations to all students who were recognized on Academic Awards Night on Wednesday for outstanding achievement and National Honor Society induction. View the full list of honorees.

Summer Group Service Opportunities

Students can use summer free time earn Discovery hours and serve our community! Fill out this form to opt in for updates about local service opportunities.
Right now, students can sign up for five days and four nights ministering to Denver's homeless on a local immersion experience. Sign up for this experience on June 2-6, $350 per student.

AP Exam Reminders and Schedule

If your student is enrolled in an AP class, they are required to take their respective AP exams. You can find the national testing schedule for each exam here. Dress code is enforced during exams, and FACTS accounts will be charged $94/exam.

Keep Student IDs

All student IDs are replaced every 2 years. If your student's ID hasn't been replaced since the 2017-18 school year, there's a new one coming at check-in day in August. Otherwise, please remind your student to keep their student ID over the summer so it can be used again next year.
If your student's ID was replaced sometime during this school year and they lose it over the summer, there will be a $15 fee to get a new ID for the 2019-20 school year.

Annual Parent Survey

If you haven't already, would you take a moment to complete the Annual Parent Survey that was sent out on Tuesday? All responses are due by Sunday, May 5 and help us continually improve the Valor experience for all students.
