Preparing for the Summer Months
As you prepare to leave for Summer Break, take a few moments to be sure your house is secure.  Often, problems that occur through theft or damage can be averted by precautions taken in closing. Here are some tips.
For your residence:
  • Lock doors and windows; remove all personal valuables from the property
  • Turn off the water and natural gas supply if the house will be left unoccupied
  • Empty all garbage and ensure no combustible items such as trash and paper are left in any public area
  • Visit the Oxford Police Department's website and fill out a vacant house check form
For fraternity houses:
  • Unplug lamps, televisions, and other appliances in public areas as well as in individual rooms in fraternity houses
  • Leave a key with a local member, alumni, or friend who will remain in Oxford; have them periodically check the property during the summer break; notify the Oxford Police and this office with the name of that person in case of a problem
  • Have a certified professional inspect your furnace; he or she should check for proper operation, automatic shut-off valves, and proper venting
  • Remove all combustibles such as paint and spray cans from the furnace area and store in a cool, dry place
For sorority suites:
  • Chapters are individually responsible for closing the suite
  • Suits must be closed, cleaned, and locked by 6 pm on Thursday, May 17
  • Remove all perishable items from the kitchen and refrigerator
  • Dispose of trash and clean all dishes
  • Unplug all lamps, televisions, and other appliances including the refrigerator
  • Close and lock all doors and windows
Chapter Registration and
Summer Information
Student organizations and fraternities and sororities are required to register each year on The Hub in order to continue their recognition with the university. Registration is now open for next school year. Please visit your chapter's Hub page, select Manage Organization, and click on the blue Re-Register This Organization button. The deadline for completing registration is September 21, 2018, but you are  encouraged to get a head start on the new year and complete this as soon as you can.
It's also the time of year when the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life collects summer chapter information. Please complete this form to ensure that your chapter mail is forwarded properly during the summer months and that the office has emergency contact information for all chapter houses.
Would your chapter like to advertise an upcoming philanthropy or event in the next edition of Signed Sealed Delivered: Fraternity and Sorority Life? Has your chapter done something fun to give back to the community or received a special award or accolade? You can send event flyers, information about awards and philanthropic events, and pictures to Elissa Christmas  for inclusion in a future newsletter!
