Dear Friends:
None of us were prepared for the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. These past few weeks have been the most daunting and extraordinary of our lifetime. We get it, and like you, the Therapeutic Equestrian Center (TEC) is trying to navigate through these unprecedented times.
Once this has passed, we want to continue being here for those in our community living with special needs and the best way to do that is through you. We are asking for your help during this very difficult time.
When Michigan schools closed three weeks ago TEC suspended all programing. This impacted the lives and wellbeing of 50 – 70 teens and young adults living with developmental, emotional, and physical disabilities, who are missing the chance to strengthen their minds and bodies, gain confidence, and learn social and job skills.
This pandemic has led to TEC losing a significant source of income. We estimate an earned income loss starting at $3,333 a month. That alone does not cover the roughly $7,600 monthly expenses TEC must pay out.
There is an immediate need to take care of the heart of TEC and that is our horses, which includes the cost of their daily maintenance, feed, veterinary care, farrier, and facility rent. Our horses make it possible for TEC to provide an environment for healing and growth for those living with special needs.
Veterans and their family members are also missing out on working with TEC horses as they face their own emotional and physical challenges.
Once COVID-19 is finally over TEC needs to be here for the community. Our horses and programs have the ability to decrease anxiety, provide exercise, and offer companionship. All things we’re missing during COVID-19.
Please send your donation today to care for our horses and to ensure TEC continues to build stronger minds, bodies, and spirits.
We sincerely thank you for your generosity,
Autumn Zick
