The YMCA of Greater Long Beach thanks and acknowledges our outgoing Board chair, Kevin Peterson, P2S Inc. President & CEO. Kevin served as Board Chair for two consecutive terms (4 years), leading the YMCA of Greater Long Beach to achieve multiple milestones, including….

  • Prioritizing community involvement and ownership through wellness reaching 12,000 total members.
  • Camp Oakes capital campaign, co-chaired by dedicated board members Jean Bixby Smith and Mike Jensen, resulted in a celebratory ribbon-cutting of Mark Bixby Village including five new cabins.
  • Through governance efforts, the Board of Directors has grown to 51 Directors, substantially improving community representation.
  • Partnered with LINC Housing to build a new home for the Community Development Branch at 1900 Long Beach Blvd, opening early 2021.
  • Attained program space adjacent to the Los Altos Family YMCA, paving the way for a future capital expansion.
  • Increased overall impact with over 55,000 youth, teens, and adults coming through YMCA doors annually!
We sincerely thank Kevin, his wife Jennifer and the P2S company for the many ways they sprinkle their philanthropic dust throughout the Long Beach community.

YMCA Friends,
As illustrated by recent association accomplishments, volunteer leaders have been the hallmark of our organization since the Walker Family led a cadre of community members to establish the Long Beach YMCA in 1884 (136 years).
Since then, volunteer leadership has been the engine propelling our mission promise to serve ALL, through cause-driven, community-based programs and services that lift up one child, one teen, one adult and one family at a time.
We are proud and privileged to be serving the Long Beach communities with effective, value grounded and inspired YMCA volunteer leaders such as Kevin Peterson, Rev. Dr. Phyllis Hayes-Reams, 51 Board Directors and 150 Branch Board Managers.
Their stewardship and support allow the Y to meet needs in our community, including when a pandemic prompts us to pivot from conventional services to meet unique, urgent, and relevant needs.
We are confident that our YMCA will be developing our youth, enhancing healthy living, and doing it in a socially responsible way, for the next 136 years and beyond.
