Dean Martin Hershock had the good fortune to accompany professors and their geology students as they traveled across Iceland, applying the theoretical information learned in the classroom to real life scenarios. The trip provided him with a deeper appreciation for the impact of hands on learning and the vital importance of insuring that all CASL students have access to this sort of experience.
UM-Dearborn conferred more than 950 degrees—an all-time record—at Crisler Center on Sunday, May 1. Richard Haddrill, a UM-Dearborn alumnus and executive vice chairman of Scientific Games, challenged graduates to draw upon their university experiences to lead joyful lives and make a positive impact on others. Two CASL students, Jessica Snow and Hina Haider, were honored as Chancellor’s Medallion recipients at the commencement ceremony on May 1. The Chancellor's Medallion is UM-Dearborn's most prestigious academic honor bestowed on students.
CASL faculty, students and alumni are involved in a variety of
classes, research, activities and philanthropy,
and are making an impact locally, regionally and nationally.
Everything we do in CASL supports the success of our students. We provide experiences in the classroom, out in the field and around the world. You support these efforts by funding scholarships, collaborative research, study abroad opportunities and hands-on learning.
For example, CASL hosted its sixth annual Undergraduate Research Showcase on March 25. This event gave CASL students the opportunity to publicly demonstrate their scholarly projects and receive campus-wide recognition for their research work. Alumni Day: Nearly 100 UM-Dearborn alumni and students came together April 16, for a morning of reconnecting, networking and learning at Alumni Day 2016. The day included seminars, breakfast and a presentation on mindfulness with keynote speaker, Joy Pehlke, U-M health and wellness coach.
