Educator Update

Hello 4-H Families,

I hope everyone is doing well. This month, I'd like to take a moment to highlight an important value of 4-H; building positive connections between youth and adults. Part of the 4-H mission is to "empower youth to reach full potential working and learning in partnership with caring adults." These partnerships are what helps our youth be successful now and in the future. With that said, I would like to thank all of the volunteers and parents who have helped support these partnerships.

I am highlighting this value because we have two very different opportunities for adults to get involved on the county level. In this newsletter you will find information on how to sign up to volunteer at camp, and help out at our Clover U event in April. Each event will have an interest form to fill out. Even if you are not sure if you would like to help, fill out the form, and I will contact you with more information.

There are many great activities in this month's Clover Courier. I hope you can find something that you and your family will enjoy doing. I look forward to seeing you at these events, project meetings, and club meetings.

4-H Award Season

It's time to work on your award applications! Applications are due by March 1. Zoom interviews will be scheduled in March.

Middle and High School 4-Hers are invited to apply for Citizenship, Leadership, and Achievement Awards.
Members who have earned all three are invited to apply for the Key Award, the highest level of achievement in 4-H.
Graduating Seniors are invited to apply for Dunn County Leaders Council Scholarships.

Battle of the Clubs is Back!

Save the date for the 2024 battle of the clubs! It will be held on April 27th at 10am.

Battle of the Clubs encourages every club to form teams of 5-9 youth and compete against each other. Clubs may have multiple teams. The events range from trivia, obsacle courses, and problem solving. There will be awards, along with bragging rights, for the winning clubs.

Camp Volunteers Needed!

Summer camp will be held for youth in 3-9 grade from June 6-9th. Grades 3-6 will be at base camp at Kamp Kenwood, while grades 7-9 will be at outpost camp at Lake Wissota State Park. More information about cost and registration will be coming in the next few weeks.

Currently, we are in need of more adult volunteers to make camp happen. We need at least one adult for every ten youth in order to run camp. Follow the link for more information about the benefits of helping with camp, and to fill out an interest form.

Clover U Save the Date

Dunn County is partnering with Eau Claire and Chippewa Counties to once again present an awesome learning opportunity for youth in grades 6-12. Clover U will be held on April 6th at Elk Mound High School.
Youth will be able to pick two sessions that pique their interest. It may be something they already know, but would like to get better at, or learning a brand new skill.

More information about registration, cost, and sessions will be available once we have found volunteers for the all of the sessions. If you would like to lead the youth in a project, please fill out the interest form. We are also looking for volunteers to be available to help supervise.

The Wisconsin 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl is back for 2024!

The Dairy Quiz Bowl is a competition where all questions deal with dairy topics. Competition in the 4-H Dairy Bowl encourages a 4-H member to develop a more complete knowledge of dairy animals and related subjects. This is an educational program for all dairy project members, including those who may not own a dairy project animal. Follow the link for more information.

Upcoming Events, Programs, and Activities

Tri- County Performing Arts Festival

Registration closes soon! Please sign your group up by Sunday, February 11th.

The 2023 Tri-County Performing Arts Festival will be held on February 24th at Elk Mound High School.

This is a low stress, opportunity for youth to perform a play or a musical number and get feedback from judges. It allows a young person to grow in confidence, learn teamwork, and perform in front of an audience.

You can sign up as an individual,small group, or club. This is a great way to grow community and teamwork within your 4-H Club. feel free to reach out if you need more information, or ideas for pieces to perform.

Every participate will get a ribbon and certificate. Awards are given to the best performances in each category.

Dog Project Updates

Here are some exciting updates for this Spring.

Join us for making dog toys and tugs on March 11th at 6:00pm in Room 60 of the Dunn County Government Building.
The first Dog meeting will be with no dogs on April 8th at 6pm in room 60 of the Dunn County Government Building. We will go over rules, elect officers and hand out schedules.
If you have a Vet appointment for your Dog, please make sure they are up to date on rabies, distemper and bordetella (kennel cough). These vaccines are required to bring your dog to training.
Dog training will start April 15th at 6:00 pm at the Dunn County Recreation Park and will continue Monday nights till the Fair July 23rd.

Horse Project Spring Round-Up

February 11th, 2pm
Dunn County Government Center, room 60
REQUIRED for anyone showing at the Dunn County Fair

The horse project will be hosting their annual Spring Round Up meeting for all current and new horse project members. They will be discussing schedule changes for the 2024 Dunn County Fair.

If you are new to 4-H this is a great opportunity to learn more about the project.

Youth Activities Council

Ice Cream Social

All Youth grades 6 and up

All Youth in grades 6 and up are invited to the Youth Activities Council Ice Cream Social. Come hang out with youth from around the county while enjoying a tasty treat!

County Project Meetings

County Wide Project meetings are open to any 4-H member who meets the age criteria. If you are unsure about adding a project area, these meetings are an excellent way to explore and learn more. Projects can be added any time before May 1st in 4honline.com.

Support Opportunities

Trip Funding

The Dunn County Leaders Council is excited to help fund your 4-H trip or activity! The Leaders Council is committed to funding 10% of all state and national trips and activities. The Leaders Council may fund at greater amounts depending on the number of participants and budgetary allowances.

Youth Support Fund

The Youth Support Fund is largely supported by donations from community members and businesses. Its purpose is to reduce the cost barrier associated with 4-H events and activities. If you are planning to participate in a 4-H event and feel like you could benefit from this fund, reach out to the extension office at zachary.rozmiarek@wisc.edu for more information.
