From January 1 – 31, the Library is participating in “Where We Come From” our Winter Reading Challenge that explores what unites all of us as humans, connecting our past and present while discovering that each of us has a unique story to share. Winter Reading is an all-ages program, sign up by going to longviewlibrary.beanstack.org
We challenge our community to individually read and log at least 900 minutes or 15 hours during the month. Earn fun badges for logging your reading and completing activities. Everyone who

finishes the challenge will win a prize including a fun pair of book-inspired socks, and if we reach our community goal of 3,000 hours read, we'll have a special community prize as well! Get ready to join your library in making a zine, going for a StoryWalk and participating in our readathon on Friday, January 12th!

“Where We Come From,” is our 2024 Winter Reading Challenge.
We challenge our library community to read at least 900 minutes (that's 15 hours) during January and keep track of your reading on our Beanstack site at longviewlibrary.beanstack.org/or on the Beanstack mobile app.
Thousands of libraries and schools across the nation are participating in this exciting Winter Reading Program, join us!

Participate in our Readathon, Friday January 12th, after-hours at the library from 5 – 9pm.
Gather pledges from sponsors ahead of the event to raise money for the library’s new Mobile Library, or Bookmobile, scheduled to arrive in Longview in the fall of 2024.
Pledges can be made per page or as a flat donation. Pick up a form at the library!
The Readathon is open to readers of all ages who are reading independently – children and adults!

Read the "Where We Come From" book in the StoryWalk at Archie Anderson Park!
A StoryWalk is a picture book deconstructed and placed along a path so families can walk, read the story, and connect with each other and their neighbors.

| Pick up an activity packet at the Lower Floor desk to learn how to make your own zine inspired by the book "Where We Come From".
Return a copy of your zine to the Library and have it added to our new zine collection, opening in 2024!

This month we're celebrating vegetables--bring a recipe from the cookbook of your choice whose primary ingredient is vegetables.
Cookbook enthusiasts are invited to make a recipe from a chosen cookbook and bring it to share. We'll discuss recipes and cookbooks, choose future topics, and meet other cooks.

Books are available at the Library and can be purchased for $7.
Digital copies may be available through hoopla and/or Libby.

Meet monthly with other kids and library staff to discuss a book together.
Books are available free to kids participating in the book club thanks to the Friends of the Longview Library.
Sign up and get your book at the Lower Floor Desk. Kids Book Club is recommended for readers in Grades 3-5.

Jan 27th | 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Has your family recently welcomed a new baby, or are you expecting?
Join us for a community baby shower! Learn about services in Cowlitz County for birth through one year, participate in a lap-sit story time, and play fun games for a chance to win a prize!
All families will receive a free book bag and board book thanks to support from the Friends of the Longview Library.

The Longview Public Library website will be getting a complete refresh in mid-January, please stay tuned as we roll out new and exciting features with the goal of having the website fully updated by the end of January!
