Celebrating a Decade of Law and Religion Earlier this month, following a pandemic postponement, the Law School’s Center for Law and Religion celebrated its 10th anniversary with a panel program on law and religion issues before the U.S. Supreme Court followed by a dinner at the Metropolitan Club in Manhattan. As a highlight of the evening, U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr. delivered remarks on the Center’s achievements over the past decade. Women Raise the Bar Through a sampling of their stories, the Fall 2021 issue of St. John’s Law magazine celebrates generations of women who have studied and worked at the Law School. Didn’t receive the print edition? No worries! The current issue is online, along with an archive of issues dating back to 2014.
Career Closet Opens Thanks to the generosity of alumni and other donors, the Law School’s Career Closet launched this week to help students dress for success in their job search. Students can select two interview suits and two business casual items to keep, without charge. We're still accepting donations of new or gently worn suits, blazers, shirts, blouses, skirts, and pants that are appropriate for business attire. In Their Own Words Space. Law. Russia. Missile Test. Space Station. Professor Chris Borgen connects the dots in this piece for Articles of War discussing the implications of Russia launching a direct ascent anti-satellite (ASAT) missile that deliberately struck one of its own satellites.
In her latest opinion piece about Facebook (now Meta), Professor Kate Klonick writes: "There is no quick fix for content moderation. The only way to do it better is to hire more people to do the work of 'safety and security,' a term that encompasses all who both directly and indirectly write, revise and enforce Facebook’s community standards."

| Storytelling Walking through the St. John’s Law cafeteria, Camille Castle '24 greets at least a half dozen students with a quick hug or a wave. It’s the Ottawa, Canada native's first semester of law school, but you'd never know it. As this story shares, she's right at home spreading some joy.
Hoorah! Congratulations to the Frank S. Polestino Trial Advocacy Institute (PTAI) team of Jared Brady '22, Nicholas Fajardo '23, Kimberly Henry '23, and Javonne Jenkins '22, and, who advanced to the quarterfinals in the national rounds of the All-Star Bracket Challenge. This is a premier mock trial tournament, and the team excelled to a top-eight finish following their first-place win at the regional competition. Proud coaches are Marlee Galvez '16 and Mike Maffei '10.
