Message from the Vice President for Student Life

September 25, 2025
Dear University of Oregon students,
To our new students, welcome to the University of Oregon and the city of Eugene!
To our returning students, welcome home! We are so happy to have your energy back in the Rec Center, the Erb Memorial Union, and the classroom—you are the heart of this campus.
The experience and education you will gain as a University of Oregon student is truly special. Our university has a strong history of innovation and education of the whole student.
As a university, we are deeply committed to the values of freedom of expression and creating a flourishing community. The UO is a place where ideas can be shared openly, and where dialogue should be approached with curiosity and respect. Our community is vibrant, caring, and engaged. I invite you to dive in and explore all that is available to you at the UO and define your unique Duck experience by exploring the resources at the bottom of this message.
I encourage you to support your fellow student athletes and all teams—our second year as part of the Big Ten Conference is sure to be another exciting ride! There is simply nothing like the energy and camaraderie of cheering for our Ducks. Let’s show our Duck pride by supporting our teams and showing respect for one another and our guests.
I am excited to see you all on campus soon, and to our newest Ducks, I look forward to meeting you! Best of luck for a successful and memorable year and as always—Sco Ducks!
