Northcentral
Where Are They Now? Former WSJV-TV Senior EP Allison Gibson will become News Director at KWWL-TV in Waterloo, Iowa. Ms. Gibson begins there December 4.
Northwest
Kaspar Broadcasting's Full Service/WILO (1570am, Frankfort), also heard on translator W245CO (96.9fm, Frankfort) went off the air last Sunday, due to a lightning strike. Both WILO and their 250 watt FM translator returned to the air within 24 hours.
Westcentral
Frank Rush exits as PD of Midwest Communications' N-T/WIBQ (1230am, Terre Haute also heard on translator W260BZ (97.9fm, Terre Haute) and WBOW(AM) (1440am, Paris, Illinois). Mr. Rush produced local news content for all of Midwest's Terre Haute radio stations. Dave Taylor at the Terre Haute Tribune-Star says that Midwest Communications now produces Terre Haute local newscasts out of the newsroom at sister AC/WIKY (104.1fm, Evansville). In Terre Haute, Midwest also works with Nexstar NBC affiliate WTWO-TV (Channel 2, Terre Haute) and Mission Broadcasting ABC affiliate WAWV (Channel 38, Terre Haute), although WTWO/WAWV GM Tim Sturgess tells Mr. Taylor that there's "no formal partnership in place."
This Week in Indiana Radio History
Sign-on dates seem to be a prickly matter, subject to great debate, and mostly impossible to confirm. If there's something we need to add to the "calendar," please let us know. Please e-mail us if you have updated information.
November 13: In 1964, 89.7fm in Terre Haute signed on as WISU ("Indiana State University"), and still is. In 1973, 97.7fm in Brazil signed on as WWCM-FM ("Wide World of Country Music"). As WSDM-FM, 97.7fm later moved to 92.7fm in the mid-2000s. Today, it's WFNB.
November 14: In 1960, 1550am in New Castle signed on as WCTW. Today, it's WLTI. In 2012, former WIKY/Evansville PD Mark Baker dies at age 57.
November 15: In 1984, 103.1fm then licensed to Versailles signed on as WOVR (Osgood Versailles Ripley. Osgood and Versailles both sit in Ripley County.) It's now licensed to Columbus on 102.9fm as WXCH.
November 16: In 1932, WCMA(AM) (1400am, Culver) signed off.
November 17: In 1958, 91.7fm in South Bend signed on as WETL ("We Educate Tomorrow's Leaders"), and still is. In 1987, Sarkes Tarzian dies. Age 87.
November 18: In 1931, 1340am in Elkhart signed on as WTRC ("Truth Radio Corporation"), and still is. In 1956, 1400am in St. Joseph, Michigan signed on as WSJM ("St. Joseph, Michigan"), and still is. In 2008, Ken Knapp dies at age 47. Mr. Knapp worked in Fort Wayne, Lafayette, and Warsaw.

WBCL in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is starting an Urban Gospel and Praise online station. This will not be another online jukebox. This station will have the same mission as WBCL with the same personality-oriented and community-driven mindset.
We need our first full time employee to be someone who has a passion for interaction with listeners on-air and in person within the African American community.
You must:
• Have at least three years of on-air terrestrial radio experience
• Strong social/digital media skills
• Experience with scheduling music using MusicMaster software
• Extensive audio production experience using Adobe or similar software
• Be willing and able to host the am drive slot (6am to 10am weekdays)
• Have complete and enthusiastic buy-in to our mission
• Know this music format on a deep level
• Be very comfortable interviewing people from all walks of life for live shows and longer pre-recorded interviews
• Look forward to being the initial champion of this station to the public
• Understands how and able to create fun, entertaining, local radio
