What better way to celebrate 55 years of FISH than with good food, colorful tables, plenty of laughter — and the volunteers who make it all happen!
Our 55th Anniversary “Celebrating Service” gathering was created especially for current volunteers — a joyous afternoon to step away from our usual responsibilities and simply enjoy being together.
The festive setting said “celebration” from the start. Anne Shapiro created beautiful handmade floral centerpieces, while Maria Campbell baked a special homemade FISH cookie for every place setting. A taco buffet kept everyone well fed, the Celebrating Service logo topped our anniversary cake, and a very large homemade FISH piñata brought plenty of smiles and fun to the festivities.
A highlight of the afternoon was a special 55th Anniversary video created by our college intern, Katie Jewell, celebrating FISH and highlighting the contributions of a number of our volunteers. It was a wonderful reminder that behind every FISH service is someone willing to give their time, energy and heart to help a neighbor.
We also had the pleasure of honoring Tom Haeuser for his decades of extraordinary support of FISH. Tom is the reason FISH has its home in the Springs, and his friendship and commitment have had a lasting impact on our organization. In keeping with the spirit of the day, we thanked him with a fish-themed shirt and hat!
Most of all, the afternoon was exactly what we hoped it would be — joyous! It was a chance to visit, laugh, eat, celebrate friendships and recognize what an extraordinary group of people our volunteers are.
For 55 years, FISH has been about neighbors helping neighbors. Our anniversary celebration reminded us that while the services we provide are important, it is the people who provide them who truly make FISH special.
